How many folks run their chains on the front axle vs. the rear? I used to be a rear axle guy but changed over, and it does seem to help by pulling over the snow instead of pushing through it. Again, caveat'ing that with a big ol' YMMV.

If you plan to run chains you really should be running on all 4 tires. the weight of the chains and the traction and added torque load that weight can produce can put uneven loads on the driveline.
Chains really allow you to drive slower in more control without using as much tire spin. That goes away when you are only using them on one end. I have seen where people split a set between 2 trucks and they would be better off just chaining up the trail breaker and let the next truck drive in the wake.
Once the trail is broken often its just a walk in the park for the rest.
