To me $1200 is not a lot of money. It upgrades a military trailer to a chaser platform... You didn't mention what amount you were going to spend on a pop-up or where you go but I was trying to take into consideration that you like to get out there based upon your trucks set-up in your signature.

I personally went through the same thoughts with my wife, son and dog. I chose to get an AT which I know not everyone is able to afford, but I based it upon my desire to go to certain places. Many of which I wouldn't take a pop-up.

I always look at my costs over years... $1200 for 10 years is 120 a year.. Or a starbuck coffee everyday for a year..

Unless you are ready to spend some cash on a huge generator or stick to full hook-up camp grounds A/C is pretty worthless, just like a microwave. Both require more start-up current than the a low priced generator will supply.
Campgrounds with full hook-ups are expensive and about as much fun as camping in a parking lot.

Just an observation based on our years with a Travel Trailer.
