A question regarding resale value:

Right now my 4.5 Sierra with the road chassis upgrade and just about every other option including BFG KO 30" tires and a spare is close to $20K. It pretty much looks like the Krawler without the suspension/brakes and reinforced cabin.

- Will I get a better resale value just going with the Krawler.? Specifically, off road could be perceived to be less mainstream, more abused... Ease of resale is also a factor since you just can't trade up.

Our problem is my wife really prefers something a little less rustic and I can see us going another route soon.

Appreciate any insight.

So much of what goes into a so Cal teardrop is custom ordered that it is pretty tough to establish a baseline for resale value.

I didn't think it makes sense to custom order one, wait the months for it to be built to your specs, then sell it shortly after.

If you are going to do that then try a mass produced model, like a little guy.

Fully understand. To rephrase the question:

With every thing I have on it does it make sense to just go with the off road version that has the reinforced cabin and upgraded suspension? Although I do not plan on any rock crawling It would be nice to travel a few fire roads, etc.

Also, down the road that would give someone else more flexibility too.

With regard to other choices the only other one we would consider would be an Airstream... Obviously a teardrop is a lot more economical as long as you don't keep adding on.

I would think by going with the off road package you would add to the pool of future buyers. I agree with unusedusername, if your wife isn't going to be happy in a teardrop, go with a mass produces model for now. Comparing a teardrop to an Airstream is like comparing a car to a motorcycle, they are both rv's/campers, but thats were the similarities end. My wife and I have spent at least a year looking at all our options, especially how we plan on using a trailer, and finial decided the SoCal Teardrop was what was going to meet our needs best. Good luck.

With the 8 month build time it gives us plenty of research time to get it right. Really appreciate the recommendations.

Well it looks like I will be picking up my XS at the end of the month!!! I'm leaving Texas the 28th of October and going to camp out in the XS until the 2nd of November somewhere in Arizona. Jon at Canyon Country in Phoenix is building it for me. So where should I camp in Arizona? I think i would like to see Sedona but completely open to other ideas. Only have one problem my in-laws are going with their 5th wheel because they want to camp with my wife and I and our 18 month old daughter. So as much as I would love to really be out in the middle of nowhere with my trailer, I have to find something that will accommodate my in-laws 5th wheel with water and electric hook ups. Any suggestions???

re: other choices

From your post "he only other one we would consider would be an Airstream."

We have one and it is really not viable for many places we would like to go. Also, you can review at airforums.com some other owner's reviews. If I had to do it again and was going into that RV space, it would be an Oliver which has great ground clearance and fixes many of the detractions on the Airstream.

Just something to consider.

Our new Krawler 459

Picked the trailer up from Palm Desert this weekend from another Expo forum member. We drove through Berdoo Canyon, Joshua and on to the Lava beds in Mojave Desert Preserve, more pics to follow as we get to know our new trailer!
