I love that you slept in the S5, almost as crazy as me sleeping in our MX5 being 6'1".

I didn't sleep in our S5's trunk alone, our two co-pilots slept with me as well.

I've admired your Off-RoadTrek since your first video postings here years ago.

I'd be all over it for a wheelchair conversion camping van if I only had a better idea of what it will be like living with my disabilities. Too many unknowns to commit.

It is a bit of a niche market van:Awesome, but us great minds that think alike can be a very small demographic. :ylsmoke:

Good luck with the sale.

Thanks for the kind words. It is great vehicle with a lot of great travels and memories. Because of that deciding to sell it was not easy. I am sure someone else will enjoy it as we did.

FOR SALE, AGAIN! after buyers backed out.

Here we are again. The FOR SALE sign is back on our Roadtrek as the last buyers backed out after test-driving our Roadtrek and having an independent mechanic, of their choosing, inspect the Roadtrek. After 4 hours of inspection the mechanics found some $2000 worth of suggested repairs. All of which were doable and I was willing to cover. However, it was unsure if the repairs would bring the Roadtrek to their comfort, the buyers claiming it was “too band-aided together” for their comfort.

Please note in the posting, this is not your father's RV, and much less your grandfather's RV. I realize that it looks great. However, it is not for everyone. As one buyer asked their partner, “Do you think your [testosterone] is big enough?” That being the Rated-G version of the question.

Having said that, a few unsolicited comments did come from this experience. The buyers mentioned that our Roadtrek has “a ton of cool features and…it would be great to have”. On top of that, the mechanics were impressed with the 4x4 conversion, something I have heard from mechanics over the years, and they also commented that the vehicle was “in great shape for all the miles it has”.

Because they backed out of the sale the repairs were not done only because I am sure that if you take it to ten different mechanics they will all find different things with it. NOT that I am a mechanic but anyone who has been to NTC and drawn vehicles will say the same (not something that needs explaining as those who have been to NTC know what I am talking about).

As for the “too band-aided together” comment, the mechanics only found one of those items and the others it was I who pointed them out to the buyers. The one issue the mechanics commented was that the battery was secured with a strap. That strap is something that is visible in the posted pictures (https://www.flickr.com/photos/joseangeltorres/13956474809/in/set-72157644174003369/). The strap was placed there to hold the battery after losing the battery panel and when the panel was replaced (https://www.flickr.com/photos/joseangeltorres/13956516780/in/set-72157644174003369/) the strap was not removed. Not because the strap still needed to be there but because I did not think it would hurt to have it there. By no means am I saying that was the reason the buyers backed out but just being transparent, as I have been. That transparency despite someone commented I was “sharing too much” if I wanted to sell it.

Having said that, “too band-aided together” issues the mechanics did not find:
1. A louver window I replaced with Plexiglas after finding the glass had been shattered. Not sure if here but I recall sharing that with someone interested in the Roadtrek at the time but I did mention it. Nonetheless, a repair qualified mechanics did not notice and something that is easily replaceable. Not to mention, with the flooding rains we had in Phoenix there is no evidence of water getting inside the Roadtrek.
2. The external water tank has a leak I have patched twice in 9yrs. I guess the patch is so good I keep forgetting to have it plastic welded. Again, easily doable.
3. The tire rack crack. That is mentioned in the For Sale posting and pictures are posted as well. Not to mention, I have driven it like that for over 1,000 miles, although not off-road, but again, easily doable.

So four “too band-aided together” issues that I recall. Can there be more? Possible. But what expedition vehicle doesn't have them. Or am I wrong? However, one of the forum rules I wholeheartedly agree with and have honored is #4, “include any known defects or concerns on the items (this is a critical point, as you are selling an item to someone who will likely use it in a remote location, and their safety may depend on it)”. With that in mind, I do not believe any of those “too band-aided together” issues will leave anyone stranded.

Lastly, our Roadtrek, for those who recall the commercial, is not the mini-van you parked in the gym parking lot and when you hear the overhead announcement, “To the owner of the mini-van parked in the parking lot. You left your lights on.” You are to embarrassed to claim ownership. Again, this is not your father's or grandfather's RV it is one that not only requires “testosterone” but more so “testicular fortitude”. Having said that, I am sure I am preaching to the choir here at Expedition Portal as all the buyers thus far were from ebay. If you have any questions please forward them and I will do my best to answer them.

Hopefully the third attempt is a charm. FOR SALE our 2006 Roadtrek 4x4 with “a ton of cool features” and “in great shape for all the miles (145,000) it has”.

Sorry your sale didn't happen. Very nice looking rig. I maybe missed it, but what is inside height?
Are still asking $30K?
