CONGRATULATIONS!

A simply wonderful vehicle, one of the most impressive in North America. Its spec sheet reads like the only constraint was to do everything the right way. I was disappointed that I didn't have a good use for the truck, as I would have been extremely proud to own it.

We may have plenty of threads going about life with a Wrangler or a Tacoma, but your new truck is unprecedented in so many ways that it'll be great if you have the time to be active on the Portal and can let us know how it goes. I promise to read anything you post and look at every picture you make available.

Sincere best wishes to you two; here's hoping you have great success with it and many outstanding adventures. (And congratulations, Bruno, on the sale.)

Unfortunately not off to a good start after only driving the vehicle about 100 miles thus far, including the 90-mile drive home after picking it up last Wednesday evening. We were tailgating at the University of Toledo Rockets football game Saturday evening. Getting ready to go home my wife started the vehicle for a few minutes, and then she noticed that the vehicle stalled. When we tried to restart the vehicle the “Wait to Start” light would not appear and nothing happens when the key is turned to the start position. The following fault codes were detected:

Spend the good part of Sunday arranging for a heavy tow. Got it towed to the local International dealer by the early evening and left it in the lot until they reopened Tuesday (this) morning. I stopped by the dealer first thing this morning and went over the issues with the Service Manager. They are back-logged so it will likely be a couple of days before we know anything. We needed to find someone to service the vehicle for us anyway so....

Still trying to understand the Unicat-specific systems. Although we were provided some documentation (paper and DVD) there isn't anything that we've found to tell us how the various systems (plumbing, electrical, etc.) actually work together (i.e., some type of operator's manual). I guess it will be trial and error until we figure everything out. Hopefully things only get better as they can't get much worse at this point.

Sorry to hear of the slow start. I could see how there'd be problems after sitting a while, but if the trip home was fault-free, it's weird to have those post-game problems. (Maybe the truck is a New Hampshire fan having a pout.) All should make sense once they hook up the magic computer, though.

None of us have Unicats, but we've had lots of campers with lots of systems, so if there's anything we can do to help you figure out the cabin components, don't hesitate to let us know.

I also promise to read any future installments/posts. Like Mike, I also was eager to share the keys to it.

This sounds like a wild possibility, but are you sure a New Hampshire fan didn't put something in your fuel tank?? As Mike said, odd that it ran fine for 90miles, then after sitting for most of the day, it started and then stalled and wouldn't restart. Almost sounds like a "Limp/Protect Mode" from the ECU/DME.

Let us know what you find out. We want to see the rig out in the wild, not in the dealership. :safari-rig:

Thanks for the encouragement. The NH fans in attendance were pretty tame and the gas tanks were locked... We are about 3 - 3.5 years from retirement #2 (I'm also retired Army) and plan to full time in the Unicat for as long as we can stand it. Until then we'll be limited to whatever vacations we can squeeze in here and there. Had been looking at a used EarthRoamer, however the Unicat was just too good of a deal to pass up and was located right up the road from us. Hopefully the mechanical issues turn out to be relatively minor. Have a friend who maintains a fleet of International trucks, unfortunately he is located in southern Florida. He has been able to provide me with a complete electronic set of service manuals for the MXT.

Good to hear you have an Int'l contact at least!
