Outstanding write-up. I bet you'll take your winch from now on, eh? But hey, it's the accidents and adventures that are the difference between being a "traveler" and just being a "tourist", right? :xxrotflma

I agree with you about SE Colorado being under-utilized. People come out to CO and want to spend all their time in the mountains. Places like the Commanche (and the Pawnee National Grassland in the Northeast part of the state) can be great places to go when the mountains are still packed with snow and too cold to camp out in.

Glad to hear everyone's ok!

We have a mutual friend near your office (Greg B) and he told me about the stuck and that you were out late Tuesday. I was wondering if we would have documentation of the big stuck.

Glad everyone is ok. :Wow1:

Yea--Gregs a good guy. Even offered to drive down and help out. Next time your down, come on by! From the time we were stuck, until the time we made it to town was just shy of 12 hours. Could have been worse. That was some seriously thick mud. The rocks we were putting under the tires were the size of bowling balls. Put about 5-6 under each tire and everytime, they just dissapeared. Not sure how deep that mud went, but it was thick enough you could make mud balls(kinda like a snowball) and throw it. It actually would stay together. Time to work on getting that winch on!:Mechanic:

Colorado Ron, thanks for sharing and thanks for taking the kids. To many families don't share their experiences (good or problematic) with their kids. Whether they know it now or not, they learned a lot about survival and life from this unique experience.
My wife and I drove through this area last fall on our way back to CO from a family reunion and were excited by the area. We plan on returning to explore it more.

Thanks for the support guys. The kids really love the adventures and help out very much, as they all have camping duties. You would be surprised at some of the comments made about taking the whole family on a Round the World Trip. We get comments like "Thats so cruel to keep your kids cramped up all day". or "Anything your kids learn on the trip will be whipped out by the lack of contact from kids their own age". I say get real. The longer my kids are away from their friends, the better they get along with each other. Why would anyone think the kids would be cramped up all day? We are on the trip to SEE things, therefore we will be getting out often and soaking up the scenery. Oh well, guess you cant please everyone. Actually had one lady in Boulder(of course) say that my kids should be taken from me before I get them hurt on taking them on such a wild trip.(too dangerous she thought). That one hurt the most:smilies27
