Sprinter 4x4 conversions

What is the latest Sprinter 4x4.

I am considering either purchasing a conversion in the US. Or buying one in Europe. I need recommendations for conversions or dealers.

I also need to know any pitfalls and who not to deal with. Please post or PM me with advice.

I think Whitefeather is the only company in USA currently doing the conversion in USA. It's quite expensive.

Mercedes sells AWD Sprinters from the factory in many countries, including Mexico. A two speed transfer case is optional. The system depends on electronic traction aids, no mechanical lockers involved.

John Bendit and his group at Upscale Automotive have finished with the durability testing of their Sprinter 4WD/transfer case conversion and have just started offering it for sale for both T1Ns and NCV3 models. Information and the FAQ answers are here:

Cost is in the same ballpark as the Whitefeather conversion mentioned above, which is to say that either conversion will be an attractive option only for people seriously needing the combination of true four-wheel drive with transfer case mixed with the Sprinter's advantageous form factor. If it's solely a matter of wanting a 4WD van, conversions of Ford E-series vans using factory pickup truck running gear remain cheaper.

however both do a great job -and one of them is placed in the area i live- my decision was going to a E350 4x4 because of the rigid front axle

not in Mexico

The 4x4 Sprinters are on the Mercedes website in Mexico, but they are not really available. I tried to get one in 2011 and it was impossible, not even with 6 months delivery time. Sorry to burst this bubble, but AWD is not available in Mexico.

I didn't have a camera with me but while in Stoney Creek 2 mornings ago I spotted a 4WD Sprinter with Ontario plates. It was a camper conversion but I couldn't look close enough to see if it was a solid front axle.
Last weekend I also saw a Fiat Cab/Chassis with camper conversion sporting European plates parked in the Walmart in Waterdown.
Today on the highway coming back from a job in Niagara Falls I passed a Ford Transit Cab/Chassis camper conversion also sporting European plates. I threw my camera into my work truck in case I see any of the above again and am in a position to photograph them.
