I took a few last summer very similar to yours! I had to make a double take! TJDIV/Tom gave me a couple pointers too. A couple I took. One was "Miss January" on the ExPo '15 calendar.

then take time lapse shots. and use this program to merge it. Less sensor noise from heat, less chance of shake and out of focus stuff.

No Bulb setting for the shutter?

Put the camera in M mode then turn the selector wheel all the way to the left until it says bulb.

My new Canon 70D has a BULB mode. I just need some clear skies without light pollution to try it out!

None of these are as good as the ones you guys put but then again it is my first attempt. These were shot on a Nikon Coolpix P520 in -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
