STAY AWAY from ALCAN SPRING!!!!!!!!

Hey Expo. Im going to Echo (well repost my thoughts from another lively discussion). I have spoken personally to Alcan about this. And to the poster above, I think these threads have done nothing but strengths the opinion that Alcan is a stand up vendor that takes care of their customers and delivers a quality product.

"I want to post up my experiences with Alcan Spring.

I live less than a mile from their shop and have purchased items from them several times over the years. They have always had great service and are very knowledgeable and professional. Their leav springs are widely used locally by farmers, ranchers, the Oil and Gas industry and offroaders. They sell tons of springs for heavy trailers and vehicles alike. They have a very good reputation and it's frustrating when someone comes on a forum bashing them when it sounds like they don't have there information straight or didn't do their research and communicate properly. Now when you google Alcan Spring, your thread is the second thing that comes up in the results.

I'm sorry that you are having issues but I think there is more to the story than we are hearing. I have made several purchases that did not come out as intended and each time I've called or shown (photos are worth a lot more than words) the provider the issue and it has been corrected. Like people above have stated, you really handled this poorly."

and then.

"This DECISION was your CHOICE to end Alcan's responsibility to fix the problem. It's time to Own the problem as yours and drop it. Yes it sucks, but hopefully it will be a life lesson for you and others that you will come to value some day. Good luck with your journey.

There isn't any more to the story. Here is the truth & all the truth of the entire story in a nut shell:

1) I answered all of Alcan's questions when I placed my custom spring order for my motorhome, they knew what they were building the springs for, they just didn't ask me enough questions.

2) I received the springs, and they didn't hold my motorhome up at all.

3) I sent the springs back without calling (this was my mistake and the reason Alcan won't help me at all)

4) Alcan refused to give me a refund, help fix the springs, or ship them back (still can't believe they wouldn't even fix the springs where they would hold the motorhome up).

5) Here I am... Alcan has been paid in full for the springs, I have paid shipping twice, and I don't even have the bad springs to show for it (I'm in Alaska and the springs are at the Alcan factory in Colorado).

That's the story and all the 100% truth.

So you come on this thread and say you have information about this deal that we haven't heard and then you don't say anything about it, only talking about how great your experiance was.

Is this iliad written by homer?

The OP should respect the GVWR of the vehicle for everyone's safety not just his. I find this to be a serious issue. The reason for these ratings is to ensure the vehicle will be used within its braking and handling capability, bearing capacity, etc. So the fact that you knowingly choose to say that rules don't apply to you means that Alcan doesn't have to follow any rules either. You ordered "CUSTOM" springs pretty much means you own them regardless if they work or not.

Do you have any documentation to prove the springs were wrong?

Did you weigh your truck or just use the door sticker?

Did your mechanic buddy suggest air bags?

You learned a big lesson on how to conduct yourself and that cannot be taught from a book. Next time you now know to ask expo.

I would bet you had a verbal discussion about the springs, gave them your CC and concluded your transaction. If so you might be able to refuse the charges with a letter from a licensed mechanic.

I think Alcan should step up and do the right thing with or without an RMA.

Am i the only one that wants to see this thread deleted? :coffee:

or at the very least, a title change is in order
+2.

It's debatable whether this thread deserves any more bandwidth--what more can be usefully said?--but the provocative, damaging title seems clearly unwarranted.

It's not my place to speak for Alcan and they can come on here if they feel its necessary, but in a nutshell I spoke to Alcan and he basically verified that the story that the OP sent was correct. The OP and Alcan (along with many of us on here and IH8MUD) are seeing things very differently as to how the issue should be resolved. The OP basically ended his chance of getting a resolution by sending the springs back and expecting Alcan to do what he wanted them to do without first consulting them. There area a lot of ways that people have posted that this could be fixed i.e. "add a leaf". and the original measurements/weights may or may not have been correct.

I could see alcan being a little irked about the springs being returned without a return authorization #, but to not fix the springs and make them right is being petty and not good customer service.

For those that didn't believe me and wanted proof to how bad the springs were sagging, here it is... pictures of my rig (bone stock) immediately after the Alcan springs were installed. I even offered to pay to ship the springs back to me if Alcan would just fix them, but they refused.

Well if ALCAN is not going to fix it just because you sent them back without a prior authorization then I personally will never do any business with them. That is just petty and shows absolutely no customer service skills. The springs were built wrong. Hell they are not even built to specs from side to side. . Not sure how that could happen. Maybe they sent two diffrent springs by accident? Who knows. But this is poor customer service and they not get business from me.

I will also now shy away from any ALCAN purchases unless they resolve this. It stinks that some companies get a reputation for a good product, and then seem to rest on their laurels because of it. Good luck man.

BTW, and again not defending Alcan, it is very likely the springs were the same rate side to side. The problem, which I ran into with my rig too, is many of these camper put all the heavy stuff (fridge, heater, water heater, stove, etc.) all on the driver side and makes that side much heavier than the passenger side. When National Spring did my springs, I had the problem of the driver side being the original height while the pass. side was the 2" higher I wanted. They did fix it for free and added on extra leaf to handle the extra weight. Worked perfect and has not affected the ride in any way. They actually saw the rig but never looked inside to see all the appliances on the driver side.

Like I said before, there are so many variables, even when a company sees the rig in person, it will likely still need tweaking unless it is a standard configuration (like starting with a bone stock truck). It does suck they don't want to deal with you to fix the problem.

To join an established, respected forum for the sole purpose of launching an online attack against an established, respected business demeans the forum, the business and the individual.

This thread serves no constructive purpose, and as such merits deleting.

On another note, Uhaul at one point used a Tacoma (Hilux) dually setup for their smallest box trucks. Might want to research those.

Good!! A company doesnt deliver a satisfactory product then they deserved to be thrashed, plain and simple. I am tired of various companies selling overpriced junk then not taking responsibility when it is not right. For all you Alcan lovers/supporters disregard the thread and go rub your springs, praising Alcan. And who cares about post count?! Plenty of peeps on here with high post counts who dribble bull poop thread after thread.
