Storage Setup In Jeep Wranglers

some tips....

-A D-handle shovel will fit with the spade forward and down along the wheel well. A simple bracket off the existing rollbar can hold it in place

-An axe fits with the head back behind the C-pillar of the cage

-A soft tool bag will fit behind each front seat on the floor. I always used one for recovery gear and one for tools. They never really got in the way of peoples feet while in the rear seat.

-There is a nice little storage area ( for spare parts ) under each of the battery trays in the front fenders

-The factory center console ( without the subwoofer ) is kinda a bottomless pit. If your careful you can fit a LOT of stuff.

-A spare front axle can fit along each of the rockers just inside the doors. I recommend a spare front OUTER with joint in a new unit bearing more than just about anything.

-A spare short side rear D44 axle ( will work on both sides ) can be stood up on the B-pillar of the rollcage with the flange on the floor.

In general, take less stuff! Be very careful with the gear and tools you are taking on the trail. It is WAY easy to over load a 2dr jeep in my opinion. You want to keep as much of the weight forward as you can....no really, you do. If you can keep the weight distribution bias to the front you will be MUCH happier with the performance.

Just a few thoughts and ideas...

LOL, I've done most of that. I had an LJ, but I wrapped axles to rollbars in a number of different ways. Check out OTT (Offroad Trail Tools) for their fender bags and rollbar bags too. They are very handy.

JSCHERB, your tailgate box and headliner nets look terrific!

Would something like this on the tailgate help?

Storage nets along the rear inner fenders?

Storage nets above the roll bars in the back under the hardtop?

I'm liking the looks of the nets, those seem like they would come in pretty handy. Also the storage box on the tailgate is cool, I know I saw that somewhere, either on here or searching online for storage options. Thanks!

I am working on a budget storage solution for my JK for camping/expedition travel. I picked up two open modular cubes from Target and Gorilla glued them together and reinforced with brackets. It is still a work in progress. I am debating adding carpet and perhaps clamps/quick fist for shovel and axe mounts. Thy fit nicely between the storage unite and wheel so I might skit the permanent mounts.

I like that, it's simple and cheap.

Does anyone have one of these "under the front seat locking storage boxes" ?

Two questions:

1. Can you put it on either side?

2. What are the internal dimensions of the box? (I'd like to know how big of an object will fit)

Thanks,

-Dan

I have the Tuffy brand version of that one. I've heard that the bestop one is not as long as the Tuffy one. The Tuffy, when fully open will touch the brake pedal. I can fit my full-size handgun in the drawer along with all my vehicle documents, phone and my camera(small point and shoot type)
They are only designed to go on the driver side. To much stuff under the passenger side of the JK's. My only regret is I should have ordered the combination lock that tuffy offers so when I'm say at the beach with the doors off I can lock my keys in the drawer and not have to worry about losing the key.

JK Storage Rack and Drawers

DSC00054.jpgDSC00059.jpgDSC00058.jpgDSC00057.jpgDSC00055.jpg

I had bought my two drawers months ago, but never could get them to lay flat and keep tied down tightly (see first photo). I finally went to my local off road shop to see if they could make me a custom rack similar to one I saw on this forum. The rack is 1" square tubing with a metal mesh top with attached aircraft tie down brackets on both sides and the front. The rack bolts to the JKs existing tie down bracket points. This way I can remove it easily. The rack was powder coated. The drawers are 9" x 20" x 29.75". Drawers were made locally in Colorado Springs who is on the forum under ExpoFam. The set up is great with no movement, rattles, or other noise. It holds all my tools, recovery equipment, air compressor hoses, and misc items. I remounted by subwoofer to the top of the drawers too.

I really like the looks of this. Which drawers are those?
