Storage

I have built a box that fits the space I have in the rear, I am waiting on a quote from a company for a sliding drawer. My box is @ 24" x 40" and 12" tall. As soon as I get it together I will take pictures. I had found many great storage items but all were either the wrong size or way too heavy.

Steve, any updates? Would love to see your photos and your thoughts now that you've tested it a while.

Sorry that I have not added to this thread.. I have since acquired an '08 JK 2 door, I have removed the sliding drawer from the box since I have to put the box in sideways. I really like the box because I can secure it to the floor using a ratchet strap attached to the attachment points for the rear seat via holes in the bottom. One end of the box has a small door so I can have items that I might need at hand and it's secured with 2 locks. The large top has locks on it as well as "I" bolts to secure it as well as tie down points. I also have cut a round hole in the top so I can carry another Co2 tank, it's a 20 pounder.
I did use the "L" aluminum for a frame and 1/4" plywood for cover, I used 1x2 pieces for braces and screw points.
Hope that is what you want, I can take a few more pictures if you want.
Steve

That's pretty cool, but I see that you removed the rear seats. I am going to have to fab up a solution that keeps the rear seats intact.

Now I find myself very interested in hearing your comments about the JK 2 door verses your TJ Unlimited (LJ). :)

I would imagine that you could keep the rear seat in if you flipped it folded when you were using storage. If you wanted it down then maybe a copy of a Tuffy type of arrangement.
As for the JK I am so far really liking it, some say it's not a true Jeep because of the softer ride. I have found it to be capable as well as a bit easier on the old bones, I have a 3" Pro Comp on it and it's good. I have a 6 speed that makes it easier when pulling my Chaser, the LJ was an auto. Also the JK has ample room for storage, not as much as the LJ. With it's slightly longer wheelbase than the TJ 2 door it still has more room and less drag over obstacles. I also like the electric windows and of course when the doors are locked with the remote the tailgate also locks, nice feature. Jeep has still not done a darned thing with the tailgate not being able to be locked in the open position.

:archaeolo Another great thing about this JK 4dr, is the rear seats fold ALL the way down, so there is room to sleep back there with the front seats pushed ALL the way forward

It's as secure as my XTERRA was, you can lock up when your inside, for protection against bears/cats/people/rabid squirrels/escargo-you know !!!
