Thanks for posting that! Nice KLR in his pics too!

I think he is over on ADV as well :punk03:

What he did is pretty much the lifetime dream of most of us here on ExPo, whether it be on 4 wheels or 2... simply awesome!

I saw a TV interview he did shortly after being released by the Columbian terrorists. When asked about the torture he was subjected to, he refused to talk about it, and almost started crying. Must have been intense.

It’s hard for me to ‘appreciate’ his sense of adventure. Purposely going into the most dangerous of situations, and doing things like “eluding mandatory military escorts” just sound stupid to me.

I’ve been in some very unstable 3rd world countries, but knowing what/where the dangers are AND AVOIDING THEM, just sounds like simple prudence. Purposely seeking them out smacks of masochism to me.

Speaking from experience, he's also one of the THE nicest people you could ever meet.

If you want to read more, search for "StrikingViking Bumming the World" over at ADVrider. VERY LONG THREAD posted while he was on the road all over the world. Some really good stuff in there!
One example:
He went to the Gaza Strip against all the warnings. While looking around, he was taken off by Hamas, blindfolded, taken into a building, and questioned. When asked by the guy in charge if he was "For Hamas or for Isreal" Glen replied by pulling up his shirt sleeve showing his machete scar from the Colombian ordeal and said "I am for Glen" The Hamas guy smiled and laughed.......F'n nuts!!!!

True adventurer there! He is well trained in martial arts, and is not a small guy. Pretty sure he can take care of himself in most instances.

Glenn Heggstad is a hoot.

Max BMW had him up to do his presentation. A great story teller and he imparts a lot of information about overland travel. If you ever have the chance to hear him speak, go for it.

Another great presentation to see is Helge Pederson's

Glenn is an awesome guy and a true ADV legend. Hope everyone gets to meet him one day or atleast familiarize themselves with his trips and experiences.
