Did you ever try Maxxis Bighorn MTs? I'm thoroughly satisfied with mine. They're a little noisy on the highway but I can live with that.

Honestly can say I have never tried any MAXXIS tire. I have a friend who gets good deals on a few brands, so I usually choose from that group. Cooper being one of them.

I've been watching a few rigs with them; they work really really well in the snotty clay-based mud.

Thats surprising, looking at the pictures of them it appears the lugs are closely spaced, which I would assume would cause them to pack up easily. Who do you know who has them Bill?

They look like they would be a good highspeed/desert sort of tire...

I was behind a Jeep with them one rainy day on Trey Mnt; don't know who it was but the tires didn't spin at all.
The lugs aren't all that close. Maybe by old MTR standards, but not compared to KM2 or the new Nittos.
Chris has the Nittos, btw, and they look pretty good too.

Related to that on another Trey Mnt ride (in the snow), there was a pick-up in front of me with Maxxis Bighorns ---- he had the hardest time in the group and nearly went off the mountain. They're probably better in the mud, but watching them spin hopelessly on the hardpack snow was scarey.

My BFG ATs are wearing fast. They're not the regular ones; they're a softer OE version.
I'm leaning to the Kelly Safari TSR to replace them. Same family of tire as the Duratrac but just a little more aggressive.

Interesting. How much faster?

One of my complaints about the BFG AT has been that they are much too hard for an AT. They are great if you want to get 100,000+ kms out of a set of tires but something has to give in order to get that distance and I always found they kinda sucked on pavement because they are such a hard compound (poor lateral and braking performance).

You have them on the Dodge, right? How many miles you figure you will get out of them?

I'm almost at 12,000 miles and they're more than half done.
They grip better than any other BFG I've used though...

Really? I've never had a problem with them at all, I wonder what the difference between where I drive and where you were was. Most of my driving is on forest service roads with crumbly shale and last fall\winter for hunting season I was in a lot of snow but it wasn't hard packed and they did fine.

Wow, yeah, that is pretty soft. So you think getting 20k miles is realistic?

I normally change out tires once the tread depth is ≤ 4mm regardless of what the wear bars might say.

I'm hoping for 20K and expecting that I'll have to change them sometime during the winter.
Sometimes the last of the tread goes quicker, sometimes not.

20K ???? I get 50 - 60 K out of a set of BFG A/Ts...
Yeah. Your truck is half my weight and they're not a set of OE BFGs...
Wait 'til you put in the 302; that will eat the tires faster too... :sombrero:

These tires aren't the off the shelf version. I've run the ATs before (a long time ago) and these are much stickier.
And did I mention that the PW is sorta heavy?

Teal ********** finally got some new shoes.

Put on a set of 35x12.50 Cooper STT's.

Rides about a thousand times better now.

Still got tons to do on her, but its getting closer.

(you can also see my new leather seats I got for it in the first picture...)

Also, in the past couple of months, I rebuilt an extremely worn out drive shaft...

IMG_20110813_211436.jpg

Added a set of HD Offroad Engineering Shackle re-location rackets and got an insane amount of flex out of the rear suspension. (no pics of those yet...)

Did a full axle swap to 4.56 gears and front and rear lockers, with rear disc rakes.

And replaced all of my rear seat stuff ack to factory spec. I removed my rear platform, and turned it ack into a 4 door cherokee again, since the addition of my little one required a place for a car seat.

I also managed to help a friend strip out an XJ so he could use the drivetrain for a project of his...

They are pretty reasonable I think. You have to shop around, I picked up my set for $800.00 cash, plus an additional $75.00 reate from Cooper on top of it. So, $725.00 for a new set of 35's is pretty darn good. They are an awesome tire.
