Thanks! I love my mudrat bumper, I'm just glad I got my hands on one. I think I talked to you about the dual range on a different forum. I'll definitely hit you up when with some questions later.

Also, has anybody with King Springs have any issues with the spring perch on the struts coming loose? I have had this happen twice, one with my OEM rear strut and a second with my KYB rear strut, going over a big bump. I'm suspecting that the bump stop and stiffness of the spring overloaded the spring perch on the strut.

Also here's an updated photo with my truck cap, which I guess turns the Baja into an Outback.

Props!! Great looking Baja and sweet lift!! From another mudrat baja bumper owner (the 4th one made ;) !
I've got info on dual range EJ5MTs (I have one of those too ;) and they're becoming more common and easier to find now (thanks to JDM importers and eBay).
When/if you want more info and suggestions for what to look for and how to modify it, I have important details (like gearing ratios, models etc) from my 8 yrs research and more newer info that's been trickling into the interwebs.

Ciao,

Yes, one little rock in the wrong spot=time for a new engine, I've been throwing around the idea, but I gotta wait until I get the car lifted.

Do you think a skid plate is reeeeeeeeally necessary, though?

I love mine, they have saved my oil pan a few times. I also have 1" spacers and larger tires.

Absolutely. Especially on a car that doesn't have a huge amount of clearance. My skids looks like a bomb went off under my car. No question I would have cracked my rear diff case or oil pan by now without them.

For $80, it's cheap insurance and peace of mind. There was no protection, not even the OEM plastic to cover the under carriage. The Oil Filter was left completely exposed, as well as several other components so just for that, I did feel that it was necessary. Plus, you never know what you might encounter down a gravel road...

Can you post a couple pics of your car, or a link with pics? I've got a 2011 WRX and I've been tossing around the idea of building some 1" Front and 1.5" rear strut spacers and I wouldn't mind seeing what it looks like first......after the spacers I was thinking of tossing on some king rally lift springs to bring it up more and throwing on subframe spacers to lower the engine and keep the CV joint angles a little less aggressive. I know that a Forester swap might be easier, but I kinda like the ride of the WRX springs and wanna keep it a little bit more on the aggressive spring rate side

Thanks

Jer

Just throwing out an idea, you could look at a Forester strut swap and use the foz specific Swift springs to keep a sporty spring rate and gain GC.

My old ride.
Not a lot of mods, but it got me to some cool places!

Still have the light bar if anyone is interested....

My idea's aren't set in stone, I'll keep an open mind to any idea, for now and not to mod the car too much till I get my project 85 Fiero done I'm going to keep the mods on the cheap, AKA something I can build myself with the tools at my work, fabbing up some 1-1.5" strut spacers is uber simple, just need a little time to measure up the strut hats/mounts.
