Subaru owners: Let's see your expedition rigs!

I like this design. I am relocating my a-pillar pod lights because my snorkel that I installed is now in the way. Where did you get the metal? I was going to have some fabbed up but if I can find some metal to bend should be pretty easy.

Just picked it up from Lowes. I think it was an inch and a half wide? It's pretty thick, too, wanted it that way for rigidity. I think it's 1/8".

Bam. Don't think I've posted my car here before.

2014 Subaru Crosstrek CVT
1" Mann Engineering Lift Springs
Pretty much everything else is either minuscule, or custom made, such as the roof rack.

A couple of questions on your hood mount lights. Do ypubhave to remove them to lift the hood? Do you get glare of the hood?
Thanks

No, I don't have to remove them. That was one of my concerns as well. But the way the hood lifts up, the lights have TONS of clearance. Not even close to hitting anything.

And no glare.
1). I have these angled towards the sides of the trail. That's the whole reason I added these was for corner lighting so I could better see around corners on the trails at night. I have plenty of forward lighting between the HID headlights, Baja Designs Squadron Sport fog lights, and 42" Light bar on the roof.
2). The way the hood slopes forward, any glare that may result from the lights pointing straight forward would be reflected forwards, not backwards toward the driver.

Been using my 2009 Forester more since I have been doing some updating on my '74 Bronco (EFI and other things). My girlfriend loves the medium Airtop, and we even towed my M416 from Oregon to the Olympics for a family reunion (that was a sight since the trailer is on 35s). I am looking for some 16" rims as I want to put on some BFG All Terrains (215/70R16), other plans are skid plates. Not trying to go to extreme as this is my musician car for gigs, and I have the Bronco for the gnarly stuff. Now two rigs for adventures.

How much does the trailer weigh, does it have breaks?

Trying to get a feel for how the foresters do towing. Mine is rated ro tow about 900#s less than yours but thats just because they changed the tow rating system.

That's awesome!

The trailer has more off-road capability than the Subaru!!!

You have a very very cool set up, would love to see the bronco

When I went to pick up my girlfriend and her son for the trip, she thought we could fit everything in the back of the Subaru. After surveying the amount of stuff, I went home and jerry rigged a setup for the pintle hook. Between the Subaru and the trailer, we hauled three people, a yellow lab, three full sized coolers, five big action packers, and a bunch of miscellaneous camping equipment. I was able to cruise at speed limit on the interstate, but could feel the weight going up the hills. On dirt roads and trails, no problem what so ever. My Subaru has the 2.5 four cylinder, auto trans, and a 2" receiver hitch. Not sure of the weight of the trailer, but it is fairly light by itself.

I don't own a Subie (yet) but my daughter owns an Impreza sedan and my neighbor/buddy owns a 2016 Forester with XMode, pretty much stock.
We've been playing with it a bit and I'm reasonably intrigued. Here's a couple of shots of it and a video of us checking out XMode on the beaches at Cape Hatteras.

I appreciate that ADF fabricated that lift but that car verges on the automotive equivalent of a bro truck. 90 lbs wheel/tire combo, 9 mpg and 150 miles per tank. With stock gearing, I can't even imagine what acceleration is like, or braking.

I place value on substance and usability over extreme though and just as much or more could probably have been accomplished with half that lift and wheel/tire combo. But if you want to be seen/looked at then that's where it's at for sure.

Interestingly enough, this was also in the article, a quote from the owner

“If you build something, do it for yourself—never to impress or satisfy everyone else. When you’re happy with what you’ve built, people’s negative opinions will never matter.”

Not suggesting your opinion was really negative, but you did compare it to a bro truck (I assume you mean the mall crawler 12 inch body lifts with massive street tires)

I think it's pretty neat, in that it's unique

Of course he could've done less us more, but obviously this guy doesn't roll that way
