I'm not a big fan of HDR pictures usually, mostly because people typically go way overboard, but this one is very nice. Well done.

High dynamic range imaging.
Typically it's three or more pictures, taken from the same spot on a tripod, merged into one. One picture is under exposed so not to blow the highlights, one picture is exposed properly for the mid tones, and another over exposed to bring out the detail in the shadows.

You merge the photos in photoshop or other similar programs that can create HDR images.
