Surplus Gear?

First let me say, i import US military goods to Israel. Everything from Nylon goods to weapons and ammunition.

I got into the business because when i came to Israel to serve in the IDF, i brought along my own gear.
After a while people kept asking me the get them pieces of gear and almost by force :) started importing.

I guess my number 1 piece of military gear is my Eagle industries A3 pack.

Ive used the same pack daily for over 15 years....up until my last trip to Paris where it was stolen.

I bought another Eagle A3 except the MOLLE version.

Bottom line...overbuilt ? YES. heavier than civilian packs ? YES.
worth every penny ? YES.

ROFLMAO. And people try and get IDF gear (especially LBV's) in the states. And whenever I see IMI ammo, I buy it.

But, the Eagle packs are not military surplus...they're mil-spec, and marketed to the military (as are BH, Kifaru, London Bridge, etc) but are only issued via RFI (which means they're commercial off the shelf items).

The actual crap the military issues is far, far worse.

Personally, my 'big' medical bag is a Kifaru Navigator with lots of pouches inside and out...built military tough, but not military surplus. My BoB is an EMR...

And I always liked the Eagle products...I have a briefcase with hidden holster that I bought in I guess 1995 or so. Still works fine after a LOT of abuse. I'm not such a fan of Blackhawk.

So, what sort of bags do Israeli medics carry?

I am a medic in an infantry unit, so we get all kinds of cool toys... and I use most of it camping through out the year in one way or another. I stay dryer and warmer and more comfortable than my buddies using civilian gear. My stuff might not be as pretty, light weight, or have a cool logo on it... but its out lasted everything else.

As for the black fleece jacket..... best jacket ever!!!!!!!!

X2 on Blackhawk quality, they built my aid bag and that thing is almost indestructible.

My STOMP barely survived a single medical missionary trip, where it was used as a 'doctor bag' to carry my tools and a few drugs. Not impressed.

******" the new Molle ruck sack is the ( . ) ( . ). I can pack it slam full, then strap my aid bag to the top of it (comes in at about 75-85 pounds) and it holds up just fine.

PM sent with "AOR" definition

I have used the current generation bags while traveling the AOR and fell in love with their flexibility and rugged construction.

For the rest, AOR is a Military acronym for "Area Of Responsibility". It doesn't refer to a specific region but as of late the term has become synonymous with Southwest Asia.

I traveled to Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq and Afghanistan for several weeks, two years ago last fall. I used the 5 piece sleep system in varied climates and conditions and was very impressed both performance and construction. I would love to source one for my own use and be able to retire all or some of the three sleeping bags I currently have in my inventory.

And I know lots of medics (line, and SpecOps, Army including Ranger and SF, AF PJ's and SEALS ) who are deployed, just back or getting ready to deploy that disagree.

The cool thing about the military right now is that the uniformity police are locked away in most units, and individuals (especially medics) can use what works for them.

Most units in israel have in-unit sew shops to custom make there own bags, vests and cases. Not that the quality is anything near what we are used to.
Cheap nylon from China etc.

But the IDF philosophy on Nylon is....it doesnt have to last forever. The money available is spent on more pressing items. The vests in use are comparable to USA milspec gear from the early 90's.

Blackhawk...well i wrote a full post on them and their like 10 minutes ago...then deleted it....i come to EXPO to forget about business and the whole post i wrote brought me back into work mode...Expo is where i get away from all that.....and i like it.

Yeah.. as long as its not bright pink, and gets the job done...we get to carry basically what ever we want.

South FLA.

Though if i had my choice ...right around Salt Springs or somewhere along the St. Johns River would be perfect.

But that will happen closer to retirement.

Yeah every year before SHOT i get a bunch of requests for MED bags....then come buying time they dont buy any.
Again, they probably just sew up what they need and buy the expensive med gear they must have.

Well, if you ever get some pictures of IDF medics with their bags, I'd love to see them.... And if you know of a website discusses training, equipment, etc for the IDF medical services (besides the official one) I'd appreciate a link.

Field medicine is both an occupation, and a hobby for me. I like knowing what the other professional militaries are doing.
