Suzuki 200 Dr

This is a addictive site. I'm definately hooked. Been looking online and at a few bikes and I think that the Suzuki 200 Dr will be the best fit for me where I'm just learning how to ride. Making my last payment on my Liberty this month and I can put 518 which is what I was paying in the savings until I have enough to get one.

That's an excellent bike to learn on. Brand new they run about 4k, but you should be able to find a used one for much less. I rode one for about a year until I was ready for something a little bit bigger.

I don't think you can go wrong with a DR200. But I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed by it when I tried one during my MSF class. Probably not a big deal if you are only on secondary roads and offroad, but might not be too fun on a parkway or bigger.

Not trying to rain on your choice if you have your heart set on it - like I said it is a fine bike. But even as a brand new rider it seemed a bit anemic to me (mind you it was just tooling around the parking lot in class). I don't know if it has more power, but it seems I see more people doing trips on Yamaha XT225/250s. Same with the Kawasaki Super Sherpa.

Then again, it looks like edgear took a pretty cool trip on his: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13199964&postcount=9

The DR200 supposedly benefits greatly from a new (or enlarged) header, removing the airbox cover and installing a larger jet. There is a lengthy thread on them on Adventure Rider.com (under Thumpers) and guys are claiming they can get the front wheel up after modding them. I've kinda been eyeing one that's popped up on my local Craigslist. I'm thinking it'd make a good inexpensive loaner for folks who want to ride with me (who am I kidding, it's an excuse to buy another bike I don't need :) ).
