At the Geneva Auto Show this week, Suzuki is showing a concept vehicle called the IM-4. It's the right size to be a replacement for the Jimny / Samauri, the current generation of which was redesigned in 1998.
The IM-4 is smaller than subcompact vehicles like the Jeep Renegade. Its wheelbase is 96 inches, overall length is 145 inches. Engine options include a 3 cylinder 1.0L turbodiesel and a 1.2L four cylinder gas engine with electric motor assist. Manual 4x4 with no low range seems most likely.
Suzuki, like all auto makers, is trying to simplify and modernize its vehicle platforms. The Jimny, with its body on frame construction and 4x4 with low range, is out of step with the rest of Suzuki's line. The IM-4 concept is built on a new unibody chassis that could be shared with several new vehicles.
Suzuki Automobiles left the USA a couple of years ago, so we won't have a chance to check out a production vehicle based on the IM-4.
