Wow- saw this a couple days ago, so a little time to digest/ponder. Imagine selling a dedicated rig, just say $15k avg, invest that in this 'box' and the wife's car, it would finance travel for years!! A very practical aproach for 90% of folks. Point being, a good friend emails me from the jungles in Laos last year because he could- from a rental car on a dirt road. His 110s sitting at home in the garage. Point being, time is the commodity. He didn't have time to coordinate his 110 being shipped, etc, not to mention cost. Instead, he flew, drove a rental and got an experience. The same would apply to this setup locally. Load the econobox DD with the 'box on Friday evening, and get two full days of adventure every w/e!! And imagine a two week cross country on the cheap!! A decent ground tent for rain days, then an awning, a roof rack to attach it/hold it all.....

I've sent off an e-mail asking about pricing and included a link to the forum/thread for misC sport & leisure, the parent company, to join in if they so choose. Somone will find the info useful.

I finally recieved a generic and uniformative response, nothing about any pricing though, so I'm of no help!

I watched the video a couple more times (honestly not just for the shower scene) and some of the things I really like:
1) hinged boxes so that they can extend out of the vehicle and then restack for compactness
2) the table setup that goes on the end of the boxes to give the cooking/eating space
3) The sink faucet that becomes the shower wand (Sportmobile has an extended faucet but also a sep shower hookup)
4) The fridge in the floor of the backseat so your sleeping area covers it (granted it is a smaller fridge than I would want

Overall it still runs up against my biggest frustration...the 2 person barrier. It seems that most of the great rigs & setups are built around 2 people but my life (and many of those around here) are built around our families of 3-4 (or way more).
Oh well one kid is 19 and the other 12, in a few years I will just make them take another rig along on trips so we will end up with 2 rigs each setup for 2 people :)

From the Swiss Room Box FAQs

More than 2 persons…

Can we use the swissRoomBox for 3 to 5 persons?

Yes, it is possible. You can add or attach to your car an extra tent or a roof top tent increasing your swissRoomBox sleeping capacity.

Can we use the passenger seats with the swissRoomBox?

Yes, the swissRoomBox, in the closed position, enables you to use all seats (except in a few very small compact car models).

What about extra luggage or gear?

If you have a lot of luggage or gear, you can use a roof box.

Not perfect, but workable.

Nice concept, but I believe it will be expensive.

Am I crazy or is that working out to ~$8100? :Wow1: Is there anything comparable in the US as that is a little out of my price range (I am mostly interested in shower/sink combo)

$8000 dollars is crazy. What a shame. Seems like a great idea.

Not to worry though, the Chinese market will have theirs available in a year or so for $799.00 shipped.

Awesome find, thanks. The base price leaves a little to be desired unless the hottie comes with it.
