Did the 3rd member swap this morning. Pretty easy stuff...time consuming but easy. I took about 3 hours to do it and I was taking my time. I also sold some yard tools to a nice lady on Craigslist in that timeframe. Have done some driving around and cooling sessions. Everything feels really good but there is a whine that starts at 31mph indicated on my truck and it gets louder the faster you go. I've only been up to 50mph for a short time. I'll call ECGS and see what they say. My guess is that they'll need to send me a new 3rd member. I'm a bit disappointed in that. Hopefully the front gears don't whine because that's a way bigger job to install!
4.56 gears are crazy low with 32" tires. The truck shifts out of first gear in about 8 feet. Haha. Taller tires are waiting for install.

Nice! I had a noisy gear set on my f150 and it never changed. Wasn't horrible, but whined at steady speed around 50. No other range, not accelerating or decelerating. All I can say is out a few miles on and keep listening. Talk to them on Monday.

First gear is fairly low stock too. I remember every time I would pull out of a side street onto a main road it would hit second gear before I straightened out. Kind of frustrating if you're gently pulling out and then want to move quickly, it either lags or downshifts back to first and screams. I wish we could change the shift pattern with a tuner and get it to hold 1st just a little longer.
I'm excited to install mine and see how they are. Parts are in my garage at home now.

My diff is loud enough that I'm not going to be okay with it. ECGS is a good company and I expect resolution. I'm mostly bummed that I will have to do this twice. As long as I don't have to do the front twice, I think I'll survive. ; )

That's too bad. Hopefully it gets worked out.
My sister in law said the fat fedex driver slammed the ECGS boxes on the porch when he dropped them off. A few holes in the boxes. Lazy ********. Hopefully I have better luck.

Time will tell on my gears. It's impossible to get something that heavy and pointy anywhere in a cardboard box without it looking like it went to war. I wouldn't worry about the shipping.

Talked to Chase today about my whining 3rd member. We had a nice chat and he said that he would swap me out, no problem. It'll be a few to several weeks due to inability to get the gears he likes to use. No big deal to me.

I'll put a post together with my thoughts on the whole process of swapping in a new 3rd and clamshell along with some links I found useful in a few days.

What the whine from, Ultimately?

Looking great, Love the idea of a hidden winch in the factory bumper!

FedEx destroyed the box mine came in, too.

You'd think ECGS would have a better deal with FedEx. :(

Short version of what's 'wrong':

ECGS's normal, trusted gear supplier has been out of 4.56 for months and are rebranding a gearset that ECGS doesn't like in the interim. ECGS refuses to buy said gearset so they chose a different brand that they have less experience with. My set is, apparently, the first set with a complaint of noise but he's going to swap me out because he did use a gearset that he is less familiar with. So, I just have to put up with the noise until the proper gears are ready. He'll build me a new 3rd and send it out.

Can't expect more than that from a company. While I'm not excited to swap it out again, it's really isn't that hard and sometimes stuff just isn't right. And, just to ease anyone's concerns, I am ALWAYS the guy that gets the anomaly. My wife says I get the anomalies because I need 'gracefully handling adversity' practice. She also warned that I will continue to get all of the anomalies until I can gracefully handle adversity. So, once I master 'gracefully handling adversity' one of you other poor bastards will get all the busted stuff I would have normally gotten!

Getting you another diff should be no questions. Now what if you or someone else had to pay someone to install it. Who would flip the bill than

Not sure. I suppose if you were going to pay someone to do your gears, maybe you'd just have the local shop do everything rather than bringing built diffs in?

Finally got my winch line on with the factor 55 flatlink! Nice to check that off of the list.

I will say that, having never owned a winch, I am now well aware of how serious these things are. I was really surprised at how burly this 'small' Warn M8000 winch is. Crazy how much pull it had with no effort on its part. Definitely not a toy. To be taken very seriously when in use.

The bumper and winch look good!

I really want a full aluminum bumper but the "stealthness" of that bumper is definitely cool.
