Synthetic Winchline question.

Did you ever get to play with that 'special' synthetic rope Warn knocked up a few years back - the yellow/orange/red stuff with the thermal dressing on the last few feet?

It was sooooooo expensive but very very nice

Right now, we've got our new Spydura Synthetic Rope that comes with our VR8000-s, VR10000-s, M8000-S, 9.5xp-s, and 9.5cti-s. It is rated for winches up to 10,000 lbs.

We just released our Spydura winch rope as a stand-alone item (part number 87915). It is 100' of 3/8" line, rated for winches with 10,000 lb. capacities and under, and includes the hook and sliding sleeve. You'll need to get a polished-aluminum hawse fairlead, though.

Well that just made the wish list on Amazon. Is the correct Fairlead pt#87914?

I don't think I have. We've got (and have had) a few synthetic ropes that have been pretty trick. The stuff that comes with our Olympus industrial winches is really trick.

Is the Warn Spydura made from the same stuff that the Amsteel-Blue is?

True Amsteel Blue is 100% Dyneema fiber (there are a lot of imitators calling themselves "Amsteel Blue," however. This is like the old "Kleenex" vs. "facial tissue" or "Rollerblade" vs. "inline skates" deal). WARN Spydura uses Dyneema and UHMC (ultra high molecular compound) fibers. In addition, Spydura is coated with urethane, has a special braid construction, and a temperature-resistant coating on the first layer of the drum.

Thanks and it looks like mine will get here today. $230 was a great price for it too. Maybe I'll get to test it out soon if I can find someone stuck. Maybe one more snow storm will hit and I'll get lucky. For my set up in my ARB bumper (Feet Forward 04Discovery)I didn't like the Hawse Fairleads that I found. I needed one offset but thick so instead I got some aluminum rollers for my existing Fairlead. if anyone else needs them Warrior Products makes them right here in the USA.

Dyneema is an UHMWPE. Amsteel Blue is also coated with a urethane coating that Samson calls "Samthane."

I would be interested to hear about the coating on the first wrap layer. Samson did some conductivity tests on heat travel through Amsteel Blue and in short, it is not a good conductor of heat. The first wrap will melt while the heat that melted that wrap will not travel to the next layer.

On the older Warn ropes they actually had a thick sleeve around the first 10 feet or so of the rope that felt like it was made of technora that was meant to keep the first layer safe from heat. I haven't seen a new rope yet so I don't know what they have on it.

I should've taken some pictures but didn't. I installed everything last night. The new rope does have a a very thick sleeve on the first 10 ft or so, but I wouldn't pretend to know what it's made of. I was very impressed with it myself, but I haven't messed with too much synthetic line before. It's way easier to handle than the still cable ever was. For just that reason alone it was well worth it for me. I'll take a picture of it mounted in a little bit. I do wish the rock guard was the Velcro type but it's not a big deal. All in all time and usage will be the judge.

Here's a few pics I had some Cerakote laying around so all the painting except the rollers is mine. I know it works great on all my guns I don't know how it'll hold up for this though.
