T-Case Crossmember question

I finally installed the OME lift on my XJ, but due to unexpected home repairs ended up dropping the t-case.

The drop worked and there are no vibes at all, but I had a question about the crossmember - or more to the point, another crossmember diagonally mounted to the one that is supporting the t-case and transmission. The t-case drop was installed as normal, but attached to the crossmember is another crossmember (t-case protection???). I did not have this on my old XJ and was wondering what it may be. The shop that installed the lift also installed a drop to this cross piece as well, on the side that attaches to the frame, but the drop looks somewhat out of place.

I have a feeling that I am not making much sense without any pictures, which I can hopefully post tonight. I was just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what this may be.

I know which piece you are talking about. Mine had it before I put the TNT belly pan on.

So, the question is what is the diagonal piece for? Like you said, just an attempt at transfer case protection. Run it till you get better armour.

The second it just the factory skid plate. Not all Xj's came with them so thats why your old one didnt have it I would guess
