Well, it sure is black! :lol

The camper's gonna look like it's floating on air. Enjoy the new year with it!

That thing is bad! I freaking love it!
I never finished the black out look on mine, waiting on the stock tires to die so I can get new rims and bigger rubber.

Thanks ripperj and FlyTime. I am really, really happy with it and appreciate all the advice from everyone to get to this point. I'm confident that I have something that will support my camper. And I LOVE the look of it.

Got the camper yesterday. Love it. Now I need a backup camera that ties into the existing monitor in the truck. Has anyone done this?

Nice looking set up there!

I don't have a stock backup camera, but I did install a Hopkins aftermarket one, I love it. I have an extension cable that I will use when the Alaskan is on the back(my camper is 1.5' longer than my bed)
I may just get a second camera to leave on the camper instead of having to move it every time.

Your camera is on the tailgate??

happijac's are best

I see no camper hold-down yet, I recommend Happi-jac. looks good on your Dodge. there are lots of rear camera's on EBay for a tie in to your dash unit, or just use the one off your tailgate. happy camping.=brian.

Thanks guys. I actually have two truck cameras, one for the bed contents (located in Cyclopes light, helps with backing into camper) and the tailgate one. I just had the tailgate removed so nothing to assist while backing up with camper in place. The tie downs are there, I just removed them to drive to get the camper because the brackets looked lame sticking out. I got torklift tie downs. Nice you have an Alaskan. I really liked the way those looked in the brochures but wanted soft side. Good to know I won't require two different monitors

Nice!

Just fish the camera out of the tailgate and attach it to the back edge of the camper - that's what I did. It might be a slight pain to get it free of the handle (in my case it was in the Ford emblem), but this way, it's guaranteed to work with your existing setup. I've never seen or read anyone that made a cheap eBay aftermarket camera work with an OEM monitor or harness.

You can always just buy a second OEM camera w/harness (on eBay, probably half as much as the dealer would charge for it). I found them for about $150 in the case of the Ford.

Go to the "Spy Shop" on line. You can ignore the gizzmos for investigators if you want but look for "pinhole" cameras. Many different types, color cameras with night vision are less than $50, some are cheaper with wide angle lenses and the cannon style will have a narrower view. All weather proof.. They come with wiring plugs are different so hook it up yourself, only 3 wires and getting it wrong by trial and error won't hurt anything as they are very low mw devices, the feed either works or it won't and any camera they have can be used to any display screen/computer monitor or video camera.

I just got an Alpine GPS/Nav/stereo-phone system and the "spy cameras" work, I have a bag of cameras from surveillance matters and plane on putting a switch control panel on to select various cameras to my monitor, back, both sides and front. My system accepts 2 feeds so changing a split screen should be easy. These things weigh grams or ounces so you can just glue them into position, the cannon type have mounts and you'll need screws. :)

Thanks Doctorit. I think you might be a little more handy than I am. I'm just glad to hear it can be done (by a camping place not me lol).

just buy the camera parts from Dodge, its what i did on my 15 2500 with a camper installed. i just had to make a quick and dirty license plate mount for it, meant to be temporary for a trip to check angle and such, that was last summer and its still there. if your camper is a permanent install it could be mounted underneath. or just pull the parts out of the tailgate if you never plan on using it ever again
