Truck shopping is fun! Back on the weight/load topic: those are some nice charts and numbers on the Ram, but they don't mean anything until the truck is built/delivered and you look at the official GVWR sticker with actual numbers for that specific vehicle. A 3/4 ton can come with anywhere between a low 2000 to a decent 3000# of rated payload; it makes a big difference how you order it.
It's great that you found a look you like, but don't let something as silly as finding one with black wheels make you end up with a less capable truck. Build and options (tow and payload packages) are very important.

there are a couple models above the Laramie still, which is baffling since the Laramie is very well appointed. Laramie Longhorn, Laramie Limited, and some texas only trim package. I personally just bought a 15 2500 Laramie because i got a smoking deal on it, got tons of stuff i didnt even know i needed for free. the brown leather of the laramie longhorn is very nice BTW (coming from a guy who does upholstery work for a living), has a nicer feel to if vs the black leather in Laramie, is it worth $5K extra--no.
im loving my truck BTW, with a FWC installed it does everything i want. going to do some mods, but no go crazy like i have in the past

This my truck=I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado LTZ 1500 HD Crew Cab, 4x4, QuadraSteer (4 wheel steering) 6 Lt Engine. A/T, with 4.11 gearing. HydroBoost Brakes, 6” Lift by ProComp, 17” Hummer 8 Lug wheels, Firestone Airbags. Dual Engine Batteries. Electric Engine Fan. Buckstop front bumper with Warn winch. 6.5ft bed. The Q/S Chevy Bed is 7ft wide, and the NorthStar Camper is also 7ft wide, It should handle the weight easily in the power to weight with GVWR 8600 lbs. Truck was purchased new in 2003.

Nice truck Brian.
As you noted mine is not stock. 35" Procomps and 4" lift. My earlier remark over getting a 3500 over a 1500 is due to my one ton sagging slightly when fully loaded with trailer attached(Airbags on to do list). Seems to me they don't build them like they used to, not suspension wise anyway...
My Chevy 1500 LTZ had a tough time with the Alaskan and trailer.

Surely you didn't "need" a 4" lift to fit 35's on a 1-ton RAM?!?

Right, but everything I own is lifted with big tires...I know...I know...making up for....
I will be out for awhile. Have to focus on the next few days ahead of me (1/2 ironman Muncie, IN, July 11).

I am not taking this lightly, and want to make sure I get a more than adequate support system for the beast. The looks of the Ram are beckoning but I'm not going to ignore functionality for a hot truck. The 3/4 ton comparison article did, however, rank it the highest. Truck camper warehouse said stay away from rear coil suspension. Not sure why, yet.
