Tc650 owners-Tundra/Silverado/f150?

I looked at the ford F150 in 2012, you can spec it out with a 8200# GVW, the problem for me was the price, I could get a 250/2500 for similar money, and have a much beefier frame, brakes and axles

I guess the draw to the F150 is the possible gas mileage. You can get a truck with a payload around 2600 pounds, that supposedly can average 14 mpg while towing...see below:

Not sure if it would do better or worse with a pop up in back???

In practice, it'll do worse. Go back a few pages, I posted my real world experience with a TC650 in a 2011 Ecoboost F150. I guess it makes sense if you do a lot of driving without the camper, but once loaded, the efficiency took a huge hit (avg 10-11mpg). I have an F250 now that is worse empty, but takes almost no hit with the camper loaded.

Good info, the more I read about this topic, the more it seems I should just buy a 1 ton gasser and be done with it.

"Gasser" in a 1 ton ? Don't like diesel ?

I guess i need to test drive both, but diesel is more expensive to purchase and maintain. I could buy a lot of gas with that money. Plus - I'll only tow a small trailer with dirt bikes or a RZR maybe a few times a year....

The camper is already on order. Happy with decision there. Now, I'm very seriously considering the ram 2500. Test drove Laramie and bighorn and rode in diesel. Diesel is out. Too loud, too bumpy, too $$$. The bighorn is a bit awkward to drive. The pedals are positioned/sized for a man's foot. Maybe I can get used to it. Didn't notice on f250 or Laramie. Checking out another Laramie tonight. F250, (gas?), gets 13-14mpg with or w/o camper, correct, doctor it?
Anyone have that info on ram/Laramie or bighorn 2500, gas? My test drive showed 9 mpg empty on the bighorn😧

My previous truck was a Big Horn, present is a base 2500, the only major cockpit difference was i believe the Big Horn had electrically adjustable pedals( maybe the one you drove had them moved out all the way)
I love the seats on the Laramie

Wow, ripperj, that's good to know (adjustable pedals). I bet the Laramie has them too (I'm at a different dealer checking out sweet deal on Laramie. Fingers crossed it has everything I need/want. Just test drove it. Only $1k more than the bighorn last night but a lot more luxury features. My boss predicted I'll be the owner of it tonight
Do you have gas 2500? What mpg city/hw? Loaded unloaded?

Btw, the Laramie I'm looking at is 6.4 l hd, gas.image.jpg
Gvrw: 10,000, payload: 3,280. 4x4. It automatically switches to something less powerful when not needed (cylinders?) to conserve fuel.

Mines the smaller Hemi(5.7), I get about 15.5 unloaded back and forth to work, about 50mis per day on state roads 50-60mph
Hauling the small sunlite truck camper on the same roads dropped down to about 12.5
