100? I just passed 160! ;)

Hang on, I'm gettin' there... ;)

Just ordered up a pair for myself from 4x4overlander in the UK. Brendan & Barbara are nice folks to work with and they'll have them shipped out tomorrow. ended up being $90 with shipping to the US with tracking and insurance.

Great! I liked their customer service too, good way of running a business. That price is around what I paid, since we're close to eachother it might be a week or two in transit to you.

Davis,

Thank you for the response. I do not currently have a roof rack and have designs on a ProSpeed (in part for the low wind noise). We shall see what comes of it - they really need US distribution.

Cheers,

Ian

I looked at them once, and I couldn't really consider them as an option just because the cost is so prohibitive for where the truck is located. There are so many racks so I can see great options from several manufacturers, just depends which ones are near or have good distribution near you :). Very welcome. Do post something if you snag one. The baja I enjoy immensely and love how it looks, sometimes I wonder about the front runner model being lighter, but not a huge issue.

Saturday's progress: Tow points painted

Truck was washed/waxed for the first time in a long time last week, this morning cleaned up the trim again with some 303 protectant. She doesn't look too rough eh :ylsmoke: Went from "commuter mode" to "weekend mode", threw the 40mm lift back on, spare back on the roof, hardigg, and a few pelicans. Still working out the roof load layout, really trying to keep weight down but still remember what weight feels like on the roof so I don't hit a corner hard on a trip and get up on two wheels....

Since she's still a little rusty (not getting worse), Today was the perfect excuse to get the paint out.

I wanted to make the recovery points stand out a bit.

This rustoleum 2x stuff really goes on in good layers, great coverage. In hindsight it only takes 2 coats for a good paint job. I did 5, so it was a bit much. I'll strip and paint again when they see some more use this season. Less is more here.

When in doubt, more painters tape. I still had some overspray.

The inside of the bumper compartment was a tad rusty still, the outer layer of the bumper steel on the bottom edge had been delaminating for years... Cleaned it out and threw two coats of black on and then went to the yellow for the rear recovery point.

A little line of yellow made it through the tape and touched the oil cooler armor plate. I'll be painting the plates soon anyhow, so I left it. The stock front bumper plastic goes around the bottom of the front recovery point so I just cut that middle bit off with a small saw. Better access that way until an ARB winchbar shows up.

Love the accent colors on the recovery points. I'm not familiar with the 303 protectant, is it really good stuff to renew my plastics? What else do you use it on?

Eric,

Thanks! RE: the 303, its this marine/aerospace protectant stuff, supposedly renews plastic, protects against UV, will bring good luck on a full moon every 3rd sunday, yadda yadda... I will say it makes the trim plastic look brand new. Not quite so good on the pillar trim (smoother plastic, like the A-pillar stuff). Works best for me when sprayed on a rag and then rubbed onto the trim. It will wash off eventually after a few days of solid rain. Supposedly good for many materials, but I only use it on the disco for now. All the other toys get to live inside anyway ;)

Sweet, I'm going to see if I can pick some up at West Marine this weekend and get out the rags and my buffing arm. My plastics look horrible...hahaha

Old trick I used in my VW days was to use kiwi liquid leather shoe dye. Works really well and has a applicator. Mask off the paint surrounding the trim though.
