The Frankenstein Build: 1996 Tacoma Long Travel/Expo/Trail Rig

Great build and lots of adventures. I have driven through Wyoming dozens of times as I am originally from Colorado and moved to Washington when I was 7. Every summer we would drive back to see family and every now and again stop in Casper to see some cousins there. I loved seeing your pictures of Moab, and would love to take the family there for a camping and wheeling adventure in the next few years. I definitely envy the openness of your trails out there! My truck is a smidgen bigger so I have my work cut out for me here in the PNW. I look forward to keeping up with your updates.

Oh cool man!

Some of the trails get tight here. But not near as tight as there I'm sure. Which I am about to find out as I am Going there this summer to do some wheeling! But yea that fullsized ford probably is very tight!

But you just wait. The trails only get better....well..the presentation anyways when I finally get the dslr haha I'm about half way through the "bad" photos. Haha

So definetly go to moab! Great place. Wonderful trails and amazing areas.

Thanks though and yes! Stay tuned. Organizing ohotos from my first "expedition"

I've followed your awesome trip reports for a while now, but never knew the story behind Frankenstein. What an amazing tale and a build unlike any other!

I already stuck my head in to say hi, but since you're whining :D

Oh whatever :p I'm just used to more input I think from people haha my other build is 540 pages long for a reason haha

Thank you sir! Glad you've enjoyed them. Can't wait for this years trips!

I may have asked once before. Maybe on another forum. I'd like to see some more details on your lights in the rearview mirrors. I like that idea!

Hahaha yeah, ExPo is a bit more... soft spoken... than TW is. :D

That's true...lol but look! Couple people said hello

Sorry I haven't updated folks. Been busy this weekend with the welder. Sadly not for ,y truck. Welded on limit straps and spindle gussets for a good friend. And rebuilt some King coil overs for my other tacoma.

Going to get a "free" alignment tomorrow done with the help of the same friend. Using the at home alignment method and turn tables. Stoked to get the alignment dialed.

Hey Blackdawg,

I'm new to this forum. I was looking at your build. Mad props! You've been through a lot it seems. I may have missed this but im interested in getting an elite off road bumper like what you have. I just bought a 96 tacoma I'm sure you've has this question before.... Do you know how or where to get another off road bumper?

I have indeed been around the block so to speak...lol

As for the bumper, they are officially collectors items now. Tim is no longer fabricating. Do not place any orders from his site as I believe it'll still take your money but you won't get a bumper. Tim has been MIA for awhile and still owes some people bumpers.

Shame really. Because he is a really nice guy from my experiences. And the bumpers are amazing quality.

Sadly, going to have to look else where for bumpers.

Stopping in to say hi. Glad your on ExPo now as well. It's a good read. Please keep the narrative going. Thanks

Thank you sir! Its good to be here!

Glad to know people are reading and watching :)
