There was a Az snowbird who had one on his raider, we used to see him every year but i haven't seen him in a while. He wasn't into rockcrawling or anything but the truck saw some good use and he was proud of the disconnect so it probably wasn't giving him problems. I think it would get ruined on rocks mounted to the diff if you went rock crawling, imagine bashing a diff on an obstical and it causing your driveshaft to free spin. I think it could be mounted topside though, do the aussie slipyoke trick and then have the driveshaft shop install the disconnect with a slip shaft as well.
With more people building expo campers this might be something to look at, I'm planning on building a Fuso camper and towing my diesel behind it but i'll be all cheap and just remove the rear driveshaft and plug the rear output (take a gear oil bath every time)
