If you are planning on staying overnight in Istanbul I highly recommend Hotel
Turquaz. It looks scary rundown from outside, but the inside is great. Fantastic breakfast, walking distance to several good restaurants and internet cafes, and the Aya Sophia and Blue Mosque. A ***** to find, though.

...and don't forget to get a good shave in Instanbul!!! I swear, it's the closest shave you'll ever have, and won't have to shave for a week. My friend in Istanbul said, "for 1,000 years we have perfected coffee, shaving and dirty looks."

Take care my friend, say hi to Chuck.
It's a pleasure to watch your progress in this little Jimny (well equiped....!)
Still busy here in the office (without A/C...!)

Scott, thanks for your comments on Euro4x4parts.com. Very kind of you.:)

Tell us more about what you think of the Eastern Europe countries (Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary) : do they really fit in the EEC from your traveller's point of view? :Wow1: Are you happy with the route you've chosen sofar?

On a more practical side, are you camping every night? Do you live on food supplies you keep in the Jimny or do you taste local food every time you can?

On the 10000km trip, how many have you covered sofar?:smiley_drive:

Even Hungary is quite modern.

However, we are just now in Romania, and things are getting interesting

Horse carts and bad roads.

We just witnessed a major rollover due to a hydroplane. Slammed into the ditch and ended up on the lid with significant injuries

I remember Andy Grider saying after competing in the "Romaniacs" competition that it is an "interesting" country. He especially liked some of the rural scenery.

The Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary are absolutely EEC countries. I believe Romania was added in more recent wave of EU expansion and it's obvious. Predominantly rural (which I am really enjoying). The scenery has been amazing.

Patrice - thank you for letting us stay with you. You have contributed so much to our team.

Another image from the Smugglers route into Spain. This route starts in Andorra and crosses the Pyrenees. It was seriously one of the most enjoyable tracks I have driven in years. It had all the good stuff. The terrain reminded me of Colorado, though you never see a 300 year old village along the track.

Scott,
Tom is in Romania right now for work. He says that if someone presents you with two hookers as a sign of hospitality it's rude not to strangle one of them. Also, if you hit a gypsy with your Jimny, they are liable for any damages.
Just a few traveling tips.
Also if you try to log onto your bank accounts from a Romanian ip address you credit score in the States automatically tanks 150 points.
