Sorry, couldn't resist. A new lens is always happy times.

What the heck would you do that for?? I'm wondering if the adapter would allow the full auto of the camera and the lens to still work? I mean the auto focus, not the settings of the exposure

I'd be too afraid with the glass bubbling out like that to scratch it on something. I'm a stickler for keeping my lens hood on to protect the glass, but that's scary

Why? Because it's the real cats meow!! LOL. I knew it was good when I started hearing and seeing Canon guys and gals willing to use it as a manual lens. At the moment there's nothing on the market in this class that even comes close to the Nikon 14-24. One day it will be mine,...one day.

For the Nikon guys... What is your opinion on Nikons 17-55 F2.8 lens?

I was going through my new B&H rag and noticed it. I didn't even know they made such a lens. Im sure its no 14-24 but wondered if it might be a good compromise between that lens and the 24-70. Pricewise anyway.

It's a good lens, although a rather boring focal range. Relatively sharp- almost as sharp as the 24-70.

If you never plan on going to a full frame body, then it's a good lens.

I've been researching Nikon Lenses lately, that lens is reported to be the DX version of the 24-70f2.8 and has good reveiws. There are some comments that it is not as fast as expected and that its price isn't as good as it could be but I seem to read those same comments on anything over $500. I am interested in the FX format to step up to in the furture so I ruled it out as it is a DX based lens. Earlier in this thread, Trevor (Lost Canadian) linked a reveiw site that is pretty good and clear, check that out for a more comprehensive reveiw as I haven't used it.

Hmm. They didn't show it as a DX lens in the B&H mag. That changes my mind. I guess its back to trying to decide between the 14-24 and the 24-70.

Yeah, it's not very clear. If you select the "fit's full frame and digital" on the search panel that lens will not show up, the 24-70 does. They also have a used 28-70f2.8 that will save you some $$ for giving up 4mm-that will equal about a 38-100 in FX/35mm on your DX body so the wide angle is pretty much lost. Please check with them as I maybe (and often am) wrong.
