Black on Black 2012, with Heavy Duty, one year old and 12,500 on the odometer. :wings: Came with Rear Seat Entertainment, but that's a meh. Got it out of Colorado, and love it! SWMBO loves it too :sombrero: First mod will be some dirt, mud, etc. then after that will be either new shoes (Scorpion ATRs fit), Scott's mod of spacers and 18", or Compomotives and one of Gap Diagnostics tools. Need to build up cash reserves again, though. Looking forward to taking it to Rausch Park, GW National Forest, finding this Red Cloud Off Road Park, meeting others and it will be the new road trip car. :smiley_drive:



Started to get a FJ Cruiser in '08, but inner fender cracks had me worried, looked into LR3s but decided to spend the downpayment on an engagement ring. Then in 2010 (thanks to Serpe's OJ article on Gs) had a Mercedes dealer talked down to $40k on a CPO 2006 G-wagen with just under 50,000 miles...but paid for the wedding. Saved up again and all the positive reviews of the LR4s convinced me...couple of test drives helped, as well. Finally back in a 4x4 after 10 years. I have a feeling this will be a bit more comfy than the '76 Scout I had back then.

When I first saw the LR3, I was mixed but the more I looked at them the more I liked them. Drove one and really liked it. I like being in a truck, I like that feel as I drive and I like sitting up high with a great field of view. Plus, it's very comfy on road, can haul a lot and is very capable. The boxiness of it appeals to me, as well.

They are nice, but I don't know if I could bring myself to drive that nice shiny black paint through a tight overgrown off road track. . . Kind of nice to have a vehicle that you don't mind beating up off road. That's just me though. Most Rover owners will never run them off road so I guess then it doesn't matter.

I debated on getting a fixer and then a DD, but in the end I'd rather have one that can do all that I want. I will be very paranoid on trails, as out here they are pretty tight, but the point is to be able to get out and explore. Not going to beat on it, just use it for what it was designed to do When I crawled under it, it was spotless and the original owner had a frequent car wash pass on the windshield...both good signs.

Put a little gravel in the travel this Labor Day Weekend

Finally took the Limo offroad at George Washington National Forest with my wife (assistant) and then camped at Smith Mtn Lake State Park. From there we did a bit of the Brew Ridge Trail, hitting Devil's Backbone, Blue Mtn and Wild Wolf breweries. We moved on up to Charlottesville to UVA, Monticello, downtown C*ville and some pretty good meals at Bizou and Blue Moon for breakfast. Pix were going great till my assistant had a run in with a couple of horse flies buzzing in the truck, which she then declared that "I'm not getting out of this truck!" I closed the windows, but kept the roof open with the screen closed. The flies literally attacked the LR4, but couldn't care less about me when I would get out. Maybe because the LR4 is black? It was weird to hear them kamikaze the glass and body...but have no interest in me. Trails were pretty simple, just nice to see the LR4 work with stock Contis and climb through some things. Pulled off into the ATV trails a couple of times to get a bit more challenge, then just turned and got back out. Went half way up from Little Fort campground till we met any bikes. The riders were shocked to see my rig up there. We stopped and asked a crew how busy it was getting up top and he said, "it's starting to pick up, some guys are unloading now, but you're the biggest thing I've seen out here and wouldn't worry. You've got collision, right?" There was jockeying to make room for some quads, but other than that it was fine. Took 2 hours just taking it easy. It was hot, but fun to get out and see and do some new things.
