The no-buck "lift"

Made my first real mod to the 4runner last night. About 30 minutes with a set of sockets and I went from this:

To this:

From the driver's perspective, of course, it looks and feels the same but from outside, it really does look like it sits higher! And of course without the running boards, I have a little more clearance on the sides.

Eventually I'll get sliders but for now I like the "clean" look, especially with those meaty tires. :D

Looks great! I did the same to mine, and got the same effect. Made it look far less like a minivan and alot more like a real SUV... Check out my thread if you want to see some HD-SKO sliders mocked up on a 3rd gen.

Here is mine the day we picked it up:

This was the first thing I believe I did. Now to save money for the 'Lots-O-Money Lift'

To the comment regarding paint going to hell...After 2 years of driving like this you can see some nice paint chips. I will eventually LineX the rocker panel.

looks good, now get ready for your paint to go to hell :).

If you're worried about the paint on your rockers, get some of this stuff.

It's that clear polyurethane tape, not cheap but really tough and nearly invisible. I still agree that rock sliders are the way to go.

Yea that would have been a good alternative a few wheeling trips ago :(. Line-X would be a good option for a dark colored vehicle, and yea sliders with inserts are the best option imo. Too late for me, luckily the rock chips on the silver rear fender just look white, so don't stick out too badly. Oh yea, the rock ejectors on the dynapro MTs really do act as rock ejectors...

Not super worried about paint chipping on a 10 year old vehicle...

Took my first 'wheeling trip this weekend (Kingston Peak) and the truck did great! My first time 'wheeling with an automatic, too.

Kingston is a pretty mild trail (although very rocky!) and has some gorgeous views.

Shaila the Wonder Dog was on constant Fox Patrol (she has a whole canine dominance thing going on with the foxes that live in our neighborhood.)

We played in the mud pits a little bit. Locking diff is great for this!
