The Story of GnaRV aka “A Series of Expensive Unfortunate Events”

Been a hot minute since an update, so here it goes...

Interior is coming along swimmingly. Flooring is as crappy to be expected for 0.33$/sq ft. Peels, buckles, leaks glue, you know, the usual stuff. But it did cost me less than $50 to put down, so whatever's.

I backed the yakima wide body mounts with 1/2" ply. Trying to make it rattle proof.

SUP paddle racks/Fly rod holder. I need to cover it with sumin' fancy.

Bedding holder. Ideally, roll it up and shove it in there.

Dinette. It's big enough to put the fridge into and the curb side has the top separated so I can just access the fridge. But until I have to put 4 people in the rig, the fridge lives where the rear passenger seat goes. Stained it grey.

The cushions my mom helped me sew up (ie. drank wine and did it herself.

Roof access. I need to have the ability to strap anything to the roof anywhere. Fixed ladders don't do that for me.

Best $70 I ever spent.

Lots of bars. Did I mention I have a ton of surfboards?

All in all, I'm pretty pumped right now. Took it over the 311 road from Buena Vista to FairPlay the other weekend. It did great. Been hammering away for an upcoming surf trip. Still need to get the table knocked out, but that's not a deal breaker. The wife is loving the fridge, total game changer. Still trying to figure out how I want to control the continuous duty solenoid, it's currently attached via wire nut. Switch? Wire it to the ignition hot? Alternator? I know I don't want it on if I'm trying to just run my stereo.

Mo' van, mo' problems.

SoCal. Head back every fall. All the kids are back in school, tourists are gone, combo swells almost guarantee waves, water is still warm and usually gin clear. But shhhhhhhhhh, its a (not so) secret. I'll be running around south orange county/north san diego county.

The top is a 24" bubble top from Fiberine. For a cool 2 g's, you can have one too.

Sweet, I grew up between here in Colo and Oceanside/Carlsbad. How bout you take the H'airstream so I can have Ramsey install the suspension:sombrero: I sure do miss SoCal but the SoCal of the 80's and early 90's, it has gotten pretty ridiculous as far as crowds and traffic!!

yeah, if its east of the 1, I could give 2 ****s about it. I lived in San Clemente and didn't stray far from that bubble. There a reason (or million) I don't live in SoCal anymore.

Do you know the source and the brand name or model of the telescopic ladder?
I need one and am afraid to just buy one and hope for the best.

We are in Cardiff.
So crowded now, lineup, streets, schools, parking lots....everything here is worse than it was just 5 years ago.
My surf window is weekends now, and I hardly ever go anymore...I can walk to Cardiff reef from my house, still don't go...the costco wavestorm was the final nail in the coffin that the SUP started.
My wife won't move................bummed

Abe, we are over it too. Sold and moved out of our beach house in Terramar (Carlsbad) just last week. Too many people and the traffic is getting worse by the day. Baja Sur awaits us. Damn Hurricane slowed down the move.

So does this mean I get to make a Baja trek to get my suspension done?????

I used to surf terramar daily until about 1999? Nice wave when it is empty.
Congrats on the sale and the move down south!

Got married on the beach at Terramar. Lived one house back from Tamarack for awhile.

Ben, the mounts don't move, but Baja roads have a way of beating things up a little.

Search telescoping ladder. This one is 8.5 feet and a load limit of 300 lbs. you can get a bigger one that's considerably heavier and takes up more room, but mine works great. Now I just need to figure out some brackets for it.

Shocker

VanDOOM!
Ok, on the Monstaliner, I am going to use it for VanDOOM as well. It appears to be great stuff. Have you gotten it yet? How much do you think you will use?

Also, if you check Jeepforum.com, you can get a discount on a direct order by creating an account and using the discount code. Also watch for sales and such on that thread. Lot's of great pics there and in the other thread as well.
