The Time Has Come: My GX build

Those sliders turned out AWESOME! Any idea what he used in terms of steel (dia, thickness, etc)? They look quite beefy and I like that and I'd like to find a shop up here in MN to replicate them if possible.

Talking about the roof racks -- I see that you have a wind deflector in from of your AO. Was the wind noise that annoying? Looking at the pics of the FR rack I see they aren't running one and I'm wondering if the lower profile prevents the wind noise.

Jamin GX,

Thanks. I am really liking them. Steve ordered the sliders from Stubbs and had to custom mount the one on the side with the KDSS system. I do not know the specifics.

I put the wind deflector on because I was getting a wierd vibration from the roof. My solution was the wind deflector, but I know Frontrunner sells a small piece that attaches to the bottom of the rack that does the same thing. I am planning on installing lights at some point, so the WD will come off. I do hear some wind noise, but not enough to worry about.

Thanks. Do you know which model Stubbs he started with? Looking at their sight it appears they offer FJ and a "HD-SKO" which appears to be for the 3rd gen 4Runner. I see yours has the "kickout" which seems to fit the GX body nicely and I'd like to mimic.

I think it was the HD-SKO. It should be the same length as the 4gen 4Runner but measure the GX. If I remember it was 73 inches. You could order a pair and have someone local weld them on. If you do not have KDSS, then it would be easy.

I've sent an email to Stubb's to get some details but I'm thinking that's the plan.

So what do you have cookin' for the next part of your build? :chef:

I am thinking the next major thing is a winch under stock front bumper next, but it maybe awhile. I might do some small stuff like paint rack to match sliders and paint wheels the same color. Still thinking.

Or you could rewire your dual battery so you don't have to worry about it dying while you're on a hike :)

By the way, my ARB fridge arrives today! Time for my dual battery setup soon...

Now that was funny and so true. Duel battery just moved to top of the list. You will not regret the fridge. Let me know which system you go with.

Small update.

I have been planning on adding a IBS dual battery system to the truck. I bought everything yesterday. Will at Serria had sourced me a battery mount from TJM that we thought would work. When I started to install the tray, it was pretty obvious that it was not going to work. I then started to play around with the IBS controller to find a great place to install it. I could not find a visible place I liked. Then I started thinking about Ben's 80 and the National Luna Portable Battery Pack. I currently have a space behind my fridge that would be perfect. I would not need a special mount and would not have to mount a large monitor in the front. A quick call to Will, and the National Luna pack was ordered. I should have it installed this weekend. I also like the thought of moving it between vehicles and into my tent if needed. I will post pic soon.

The GX has over 114,000 miles on it now. I am starting to notice that the ride is just not the same. I am guessing that the shocks have finally wore out. I am thinking this would be a good time to start thinking about a small lift and shock upgrade. Any one have any ideas on what the best set up would be?
