The Time Has Come: My GX build

If it is fully compatible with the 4Runner, you might want to look at the Radflo kits offered through Overland Warehouse. I have a 2.5 kit with their UCAs and I like it a lot.

The GX has over 114,000 miles on it now. I am starting to notice that the ride is just not the same. I am guessing that the shocks have finally wore out. I am thinking this would be a good time to start thinking about a small lift and shock upgrade. Any one have any ideas on what the best set up would be?

the spring recommendations from OME are one step down from 4runner specs. I have OME 885's with an ARB sahara bar and winch. this netted me a couple inches of lift. Do yourself a favor and buy the nitrocharger sport shocks. The ride is much more stable.

Well it looks like ICON's are going to fit the bill. I had the truck over at Sierra Expeditions and we all deceided that it would be that best option.

I just need to pick out some new tires.

I didn't know they made Icons for your rig. You can't go wrong with them! Easily the best upgrade I've made on my truck.

Rocket,

The underbody of my truck is the same as the 4runner or FJ. Mine is a little different because I have KDSS, but it seems that everything will work fine. I am hoping to have it done by the end of next month.

KDSS just gets disabled. But the fitment is the same.

*Edit* don't listen to me. I was thinking about X-REAS

Pedro,

The KDSS does not get disabled. The KDSS is only a sway bar disconnect system. Several people have lifted thier KDSS. The new 4Runner has KDSS as well. I would have not changed anything if I lost KDSS.

Like the build. I am also building my GX, but a bit more for offroad than expo (sort of both). I won't be doing RTT, etc since I don't want to be too top heavy. I am subscribing!

Dan,

Glad to see you on Expo. I have been following your truck build. Please post here what you have done again.

On order:

minus the rear coils. I am going to try using a spacer below the airbag or do the sensor trick in the rear. I tow a trailer and still would like to be able to level the back if needed.

I am also looking at the Asfir skids. Wil at Sierra is looking into them to make sure they will work with my KDSS.

Now the question:

What size tire?

I am looking at the BFG A/T's. The sizes I have narrowed down too:

235/80/17E = 31.8 inch tire
275/70/17E = 32.2 inch tire
285/70/17E or D = 32.8 inch tire

The only other option I would consider would be:

BFG M/T 255/75/17 E (this is the stock size on the Rubicon)

I perfer a taller skinner tire, but all the narrower ones are E. The only one I can find in D is the 285/70/17 but not sure I want to go that wide.

Suggestion Welcomed.

I say if you can get the jeep takeoffs cheap on craigslist then that is the way to go.
Otherwise I bet you can get Discount tire to test fit tires to see what works.

I run E loads on mine. My wife even likes the ride better than stock.

But we are running Duratracs which are said to be softer than most E load tires.
