Thoughts on Quick Fists and Shovel Mounting

Hmmm well now, hearing that, and having already mounted mine, we'll see what happens...

I do have a short cable and lock as a theft deterrent and backup attachment point if the quick-fists were to fail.

Thanks everyone for all the input

Cheers,
West

Mine is mounted on my bed bar.
Note that the axe is actually pointing blade down, when i go out.

have thought about mounting my shovel under the frame of my trailer, but wondered how the quick fists would work. I currently have my axe mounted on the side.

Again, get bogged in and you can't get at the shovel to dig your way out. I don't like the idea for another reason, too: if the clamp fails, the tool will be dropped on the road and could be dangerous to other vehicles. The construction of Quickfists means that if the strap fails on a side mount or top mount position, then it's unlikely to drop the tool.

Mine has been mounted like this for several years; being out of the sun can't hurt it.
It has bounced down some rather nasty trails/roads and never come loose.

For the FWC application a safety strap (550 cord) sounds like a good idea.

this requires a retaining cord wrapped around the handle to keep it from slipping down.

It's been there over a year and it's great!

I used them to mount my shovel and axe on top of my Gobi Stealth rack last year and they didn't budge....It was 5,000 mile round trip inluding very rough drives out to Cathedral Valley and Hole in the Rock Road. If they were jarred loose from those drives I doubt they will come loose.

They're used on fire trucks for equipment. If you're worried about the strength you can always use 3 to hold the shovel.

I've got a shovel in the bed of my pickup truck, paddles in my boat, and other misc stuff held in place with them. Zero problems.

I used quickfists to mount my pioneer kit on my truck box. I'm not sure I'd trust them entirely. I'd hate for a shovel to fall out on the road.
