Thule or Yakima?

Yes.

Robert De Niro said it in the movie Ronin: "Whenever there is any doubt - there is no doubt."

We can become so open minded, so PC that soon we fail to stand for anything.

Regarding terrorism - if an islamic company is not doing a whole lot to publicly distance themselves from terrorists, that alone raises an eyebrow. To have a board member under investigation, well... see the above quote.

Sometimes things are black and white, and then one paint brush covers everything pretty well. I now regret my yak stuff...

“We can become so open minded, so PC that soon we fail to stand for anything.”

Stand up for the ideals that America was founded on, that became part of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Foundations that are consider essential for a democracy, like the rule of law and due process. The idea of being innocent until proven guilty.

With the Government of the US trying to set up models of “our” style of democracy through out the Middle East their case might be stronger if we were “living” it at home.

Rather than trying to be Politically Correct I believe it more as case of morals and ethics.

If we erode the foundations of our society in order to overcome the threat of Radical Islam how do we differentiate ourselves from those we oppose?

How do we stop the spread of what is now a radical minority throughout Islam when we don’t differentiate between the majority and the minority?

How do we stop the spread of Radical Islam when an accusation is considered proof?

You have every right to exercise your right to withhold your buying power from Yakima for any reason you see fit.

That reads really nice, but unfortunately it does not really work, does it? Today, history is being re-defined, and God is being protested in our schools out of a ridiculous perversion of the Separation Act. The rule of law is now part of a bureaucracy and therefore reduced to being a tool enforcing the will of the powers that be - the same powers that will tell you to "do the right thing" - as defined by them.

To stay on topic here - while we want to believe that one can make a difference, etc. etc. the one must be willing to put up with character assassination, and the rule of public opinion rather than law. If Yakima is in fact part of this Islam bank, then good business practice in this "sensitive" time would be to put great, traceable distance between the radicals and themselves. If none of this is true - then likewise, they should be answering the call to clarify their name.

But now we live in an age of appologists, where anything goes, so long as the people agree with it. We live in a time where Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - the leader of pending nuclear power that proclaims the destruction Israel and Death to America is invited to Columbia University to speak to our kids. The press holds him up to be a hero... and homosexual fairy tales are being read to our 2nd graders via court order. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298307,00.html

So, yes, we can be so open minded and non-judgmental that we become weak. Yak is off my list. I have made many judgments that put things off my list. I have also come to believe that no one hates The United States more than Congress, our courts, and the media.

I am less interested in The Bank than I am in Yakima. Yak got my money. I do not consider anything the Bank says about themselves to be very creditable either. Places like this forum that bring such topics to light have far greater interest to me than a self-proclaimed statement of innocence by the accused. Nor do I think that an accusation makes a victim.

Now you have ranted I'd suggest you do some research and read a little about the Bank of Islam. Try their website for a start http://www.bankislam.com.my/ The about us section has a list of current board members. Dr Jamal Muhammad Barzinj, is not on it. They also have a very comprehensive and open policy on money laundering.

It might also be good to notice that Bank Islam in Malaysia is different than Arcapita (previously called First Islamic Investment Bank) in Bahrain, who is the investment firm who owns Yakima. See post #33 of the thread.

Yes you are correct. Researching Arcapita also shows no links to Dr Jamal Muhammad Barzinj. Searching for information on Arcapita brings up a lot of background information that the "evidence" comprises of unsubstantiated rumor.

All my racks are Yakima and most are over 15 years old. I have no clue what their designation is, but it is a gutter mount.

I am now in the market for a cargo box. A quick couple of questions.

What are the various experiences with the different cargo boxes? Pros/Cons

Is it true I would be able to mount a Thule cargo box on my round Yakima rack? Since the rack is going strong, I don't see the need to change it unless the Thule box is incompatible with that rack and a far superior product.

Thanks

That's pretty much my reading. On one hand, I don't like the idea of fronts for supporting terrorism, but I also want to give Yakima or any other company a fair shake. The Internet can be very powerful, but the little bit of poking around I did seemed like a lot of blogs pointing to other blogs, so I was just hoping nullifier could point to verifiable documentation. Dates on magazines or newspapers (not that they are necessarily above reprinting rumors anymore), but at least something presumably researched with sources.

Cargo boxes from both Yakima and Thule are universal. They will fit either brand or factory.
