Everybody wants to get silly and build their vehicles to the extreme. For most it starts off with simple mods like a bumper, lights or a winch. Most don’t set out for full tilt build when they purchase their rig. With weekend trips out to your favorite spot you begin to push just a little harder and go a little faster that you promised you would never do with “THIS ONE”. You may break a simple part or maybe a big one but it gives you the perfect excuse to buy that aftermarket part you really wanted but couldn’t justify the expense. A year or three go buy and you have slowly added some nice parts and really want to go to the next level but reality sets in that this is your daily driver, your significant other would murder you and of course there is always the money factor for some…. Well this build has all of those and somehow it still ended up in our shop to build.

This build started as a weekend warrior and tow vehicle for a small camping trailer. After several trips and repairs to sheet metal under the hood due to flex and twisting on trails we knew that at some point it would have to be addressed. In the meantime, we built a back bumper with less overhang to get caught up on things.

With several more trips out to the desert with the clock ticking on the inevitable! It was the proverbial rock that broke the oil pan moment when it all became clear!
It is time to get silly……………….
That is where we are now! Stay tuned and subscribe to this build Thread.

Some of the things we will be doing:
Suspension: Front and rear
Bumper to bumper cage
Interior
4x4 mods
Lots more mods and upgrades
Thanks

Toyota FJ Cruiser strip down

The first thing with this build was to remove all the unnecessary interior while we build the cage. We also are going to eliminate all the sheet metal in the front and build a tube structure.

Lots of sheet metal to remove, along with the dash and windshield.

Cage beginning

With the dash out and wiring moved around, we started on the interior of the cab cage. We are doing A rolled roof inside to really hug the roof line.

You almost cant see the tube... 1.75 x .120 cromolly tubing

With the dash completely removed the main pillar tubes fight tight along the sheet metal and windshield.

Now back to work!

more roll cage work

The entire interior cab cage is rolled tubes to give it a really clean look and its strong. Here are more pics of the inside as we keep building.

All the tubes are coming together nicely and this cage is really starting to take shape.

if you guys have any questions, please ask.

More to build.....
