That would be a nice tire, unfortunately there are no 17" rims readily available for the 100 series. All of the aftermarket is concentrated on the Tundra which is 18" on up. And Toyota jumped the 17" size and went from 16s to 18s.
I'm running 315/75/16 MTRs on my 100. I'm going to go to a 285/75/16 next time. Hopefully, a Toyo Open Country MT, as that is my favorite all around tire. Awesome off road and fairly quiet on road. I just don't wheel my 100 hard enough to justify rolling around that much extra rubber all the time. It takes fuel to make that rubber roll!
That is the key: Don't go to a larger tire than you need for the terrain you are driving. Start small and see how you do. If I didn't need 35" (OK
need is a dubious word...however I ran 285R75 16" MT/Rs for over a year and found I was hanging up more than I wanted...35" solved this but it wasn't cheap!) I would have stayed at 33" with 4.56 or 4.88's (that's a whole 'nother thread worth of rhetoric right there :yikes: ).
Personally I like no wider than 285 width. Since going to 285R75 18"...so far about 7,500 miles worth of varied terrain surfaces...I won't be going back to 315 width. It is better in all respects particularly on a 100!
Other than balance issues the GY MT/R is an incredible tire. Compared to Toyo AT/MT it is alot lighter; tough sidewall and casing; tread will last 40K; priced competitively. But the balance issues I had with all my MT/R's finally did them in for me.
