Tire reviews, Believable?

I was reserching for my next set of tires, and these were the first two?



Avid 4WDriver I hit the trails 2-3 times a month
Run 2 vehicles GU patrol and 80 series Land cruiser.
I have tried the KM2 285/75 R16 on both vehicles and have been extremely disappointed with the tyre wear and the way they chip and tear on rocky terrain this was more noticeable on the heavier Patrol.
Their performance in sand and snow has been good but in Mud they have been a dissapointment.
I have since purchased 2 other tyre brands in the search for a tyre to match the KM still looking....
Sorry to say I was a committed BFG man until I purchased the KM2
Would I recommend or buy the KM2 again in short NO!

I have had these on my 90 Wrangler for about 8 months, I have taken them in everything from mud, rocks, snow and sand, there is a rare need for even 4 wheel drive. They are really smooth on the road and quiet. I have previously owned 3 sets of the older Mud Terrains and there is no comparison. Mine are only 35/12.50/15 but now I'm in search for a set of 37's THEY ARE THE BEST !!

Completely different vehicles often equals completely different experiences. The first reviewer notes he has a GU Patrol and an 80 Series Land Cruiser, both of which are pretty meaty vehicles. The second guy noted a 1990 Jeep Wrangler which is pretty darn light by comparison to those other vehicles. And that's not even mentioning the different terrains found in their respective geographic locations. The first guy may be climbing steps of sharp granite all the time while the second one stated he rarely needs 4WD.

I'd try to find out what's working for the locals in your area.

Your 285 x 75x 16 KM2's were probably Load Range E which is a pretty stiff tire.

I have had that size on a truck and now have 33 x 10.50x 15" Load Range C on my Jeep which feels totally different.

Have you looked into Goodyear MTRs? The tread design kind of grows on you but they seem to work pretty well on my 4 Runner.

The first review was not mine. I was reading them to research the KM2s some more before purchasing. In fact I'm looking at most likely getting a set of 33x10.5's like you have on your Jeep. How does the road noise compare to the old BFG MTs. (My favorite tire)

Locals around here are having trouble with KM2s blowing out the side walls. This is on jeeps with 35" tires. Sharp rocks and sandy desert conditions. Driving style problems perhaps, but on a jeep Yj with 4:88 gears detroit lockers and an atlasII a wheeling budy of mine has ruined two of them already.

On the same conditions the Goodyear kevlar MTs and the duratracs are holding up very well.

KM2's

Running same tire as pau-hana on similar vehicle (I have a FJ) and having the same results as he is. So far the only situation they have not worked so well was in snow, every where else I have been very happy with them. I have 2 friends with same truck/tires and they are happy with them also.
