If you have a 33 x 9.50 tire and a 31 x 10.50 tire and they weight the same is stress the same on the axle as far as rotational weight.

Not necessarily...the faster the bigger tire spins the more centrifugal force and that can snap axles...Thats why people will say, "you can run up to a 33 inch tire safely on a Dana 35, but not a 35 inch tire."

The farther the weight is from the axel, the more the effect (think lever). So, all else being equal, the larger tire will stress the axle more.

Leverage is the word I was looking for...A larger tire will but more leverage on parts, making it easier to break them. Thank you to Lynn for jogging my memory.

The reason I ask is , I have 31 x 10.50 on my cherokee and I have a chance to get 33's pretty cheap. I do have 8.25 axle with 27 spline 1541 axles can I handle 33's without any problem. I like my 31"s but this deal only comes once in awhile but I am concerned about breaking things.

how hard do you wheel? 33's will be fine if you can finesse it. If your in the rocks with the pedal down all the time, you will break something. If you drive more on road and wheel everyonce in a while and just dont mash the pedal everywhere youll be A-OK. Im running 33s on my XJ. Id buy them if you are getting a good deal. What are they?
