Titan spare tire replacement fuel tank

30 gallons of extra fuel, being conservative at 15 mpg that give me, 450 extra miles.

~820 miles of range (taking out a few gallons for reserve)...that's pretty awesome, especially if you're looking to be selective on where you get your fuel from.

I'm glad the installation worked out so well. Mounting the fuel filler on the inside of the bed seems like a smart move. I'd be interested to see if Titan Tanks ever updates the controller and pump units; I've heard other Titan Tank owners mention the same thing about how the transfer was slow and the components looked somewhat cheap. But overall, people seem happy with these auxiliary tanks.

Yeah the pump is still very slow, even in warmer weather, the controller is kinda cheap. I only fill up at truck stops or places that sell allot of fuel, so I now can be more selective.

Wow thats much slower than I would have guessed. Do you have a choke point or is this just the best the pump can manage?

I wonder if you can just buy the tank and add your own transfer system? I think a hydramat and an internal walbro pump would fit in there easily. Then just add a simple transfer controller.

No kinks or issues with the line, I’m going to time it this weekend. Temps were around 6 degrees out when I transferred last. I’m not sure if that will make a difference or not.

yeah it seems slow, but there is no way to burn 5 gallons of fuel in 10 minutes. as long as the pump can exceed what the engine consumes, i dont see it being a big deal.

Maybe im wrong?

I think the speed is normal. My friend has an in bed tank and it transfers about the same rate he said. For me it’s just extra fuel so on trips I don’t need or search for a place to stop for diesel or if I don’t want to stop I don’t have to.

Ok I timed the transfer of 5 gallons of fuel today... 9 minutes. The pump and lines are pretty small so I’m sure that could have something to do with it. On another note, the pump is loud, you will hear it running, one is mounted to the underside of my bed near the factory fuel filler.

That's good. because at .5gpm you'd forget it was on and let it run dry for the rest of the trip.

Resurrecting this to see how things have fared with the system. Looking at putting one in my F350. Extended cab short bed so no other options for getting a decent amount of fuel on board. Of course the spare tire is a problem (planning a Baja trip so need something)

If you can sacrafice some bed height install a boat belly tank flat in the truck bed. Depending on the tank you select you would lose as little as 7 inches. Place a plywood deck over the top.
