Toyo OPEN COUNTRY A/T II

Tabernac! The AT2s are super quiet! Only driven one day in the snow, and it was the super greasy wet stuff, so I'm not going to pass judgement on them yet.

I have 22k on my 245/75r16s of the Toyo OC AT-II and they still have a TON of tread left on them. My Pathfinder is probably roughly 4150lbs average running weight, and I've rotated and balanced them very frequently, and kept it in alignment. Not sure on tread depth, but it's still very substantial, and I should have no issue getting 40-50k out of them.

Yeah, my accelerated wear is due to the twisties that I drive on and the weight of the truck.

Both to bump this thread and as a legitimate question-

When your tires are in need of a rotate and balance do they start to make noise?

I've noticed any time I do suspension work and it's in need of a balance and rotation, the Toyos start howling like old mud tires. Anyone else experience this?

Mine stay quiet; I wouldn't know it was time to rotate if I didn't keep a log.

Mine are the same noise-wise after a rebalance, rotation. Very mild tire noise. The most weight they took was 2.75 ozs. Compare that to 4-10 ozs on a BFG set I had and it's apparent to me BFG could use some more accurate jigs.

I just ordered a set of these for my Ram 2500. It should be almost identical to Hilldweller's (except I've got Cummins, he's got lockers). I run a lot of highway miles, and not as much dirt as if like to any more. I'm hoping they give me a good run.

I have them on my 99 Expedition - I love them. They are great on the highway and did a great job with the ice the past few times. Yep - bought them because Hilldweller advised as such.

I have the Open country A/T II in the 295/75/16 size which is one of the "extreme" sizes, which means the lugs are spaced farther apart and the side wall treads are thicker. I notice no increase in noise when its time to rotate but i do notice a slight increase in vibration, which is gone after a rotation. I always rotate back to front, left to right. Which is what really made the difference in the vibration. I asked the tech at the local tire shop where i purchased the tires and he said on these "4 wheel drives" it is good enough to rotate back to front and no need to then go left to right. but that is what made the difference in quieting them. YMMV.

I wish they would make the "extremes" in smaller sizes, I would like a little more aggressive tread design without going to a full on mud tire.

I wish they made the Xtreme in 255/80-17.
I traded the PW for a Jeep and just shod it with Cooper ST-Maxx. Only two tires in that size...

3-sets of Toyo AT's (2-AT, 1-AT2; 285/75R18) and never had any that "howled like mud tires"...

Hmm maybe it's just my set? It's a little annoying, but at least it goes away once balanced and aligned. (Typically do this about one or two days apart from each other).

I bought a set of 295x75 R18s for my F250. They have been great tires for the past 5 k with no wear on them yet. Best of all - size means no rubbing, unlike the Procomp's or Nittos (35x12.5 R18) I previously ran. Much quieter ride as well.
