Toyota Blizzard?

Poking around Craigs List I found this listing, no pic though. Here's the link http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/car/736642321.html

I've never heard of this.

1982 Toyota Blizzard

This is an extremely rare Toyota Blizzard. This is the ONLY hardtop model Blizzard in North America. There is one soft top model and one pickup truck known to exist in the US and Canada. This was imported correctly and MA titled. 100% street legal. 40+ MPG!!!

It's an LD10 Deluxe model with a 3B diesel 4cyl engine.
Runs excellent with no smoke.
Idles very smooth.
300 miles on swamper type tires
Comes with spare set of tires and spare rim for the tire carrier
gets 40+ mpg
Also an Excellent offroading vehicle with square type wheel stance
Welded rear diff
Suspension new with 2" lift
Seats 4- buckets up front, bench in back
original owners manual

Serious inquiries only. This will mainly appeal to the hardcore Toyota people or someone who wants great mileage in a fun truck. Would be an excellent biodiesel ride! No tire kickers and no gawkers.

There is alot of info on IH8Mud regarding the Blizzards (and their Dihatsu counterparts). A recent thread here on ExPo too: http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15992&highlight=blizzard

Despite the sellers claims, while it is rare, it is NOT the only soft-top model in the US. Here is a 80' model in Cali:

Kind of a 70 series, but not as rugged. I would be skeptical of the import, most like that and 70 series are gray market.

Does anybody remember the old Suzuki Mini Brute? That's what that reminds me of. IIRC the Mini Brute had a 2 stroke motorcycle engine of around 600cc. I think they were sold in the US briefly in the early 70's.

Incidentally, I've seen a few around, still. There's one in Denver right off of Monaco between Yale and Evans, on the West side of the road. It's in someone's driveway and I've never seen it move so I don't even know if it runs.

A yellow-ish Blizzard went by on a trailer going the opposite direction on 95 a few weeks ago, I turned completely around in my seat and wanted to take off after it. My coworker riding with me could not comprehend why I got so excited when I saw "a crappy little jeep"....

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
Pretty sure these are consider "light duty" whereas Land Cruisers are considered medium and heavy duty. I think the samurai comparison is a safe one..

Early 80's as I recall. There was one at a 4x4 event in central Utah last fall. Swear on my life they brought it in the back of a full-size pickup

Air-cooled, 2 stroke motor :D

Kurt,
Reread the ad, the seller claims that it may be the only HARDTOP model in the US.
They are pretty cool but not very practical for my needs. It would make a nice run around vehicle and get great mileage.

Funny how things are different on the different sides of the big pond. The Daihatsu Wildcat was sold in Switzerland in the 80ies trying to ride on the success of the Suzuki 410, 413 and the Samurai. They were never a hot seller: slow, harsh, leaky and prone to corosion (some people claimed that the Wildcat even coroded in the brochures) :yikes: all bad points of various small off-roaders combined in one vehicle :D Some farmers up in the Alps liked them though ...

Ah ha, you are correct. But he is still wrong... there have been several hard top models on eBay recently too :D

I concur the are pretty much impractical for any over the road use, but they would make a great parts fetching rig :D

I think you're thinking of the Bunderra ??? Or was the name Blizzard just a US model name like Hiluxx versus just Pick Up here in the US. I know that there are a few Bunderra's in Canada wether or not they're JDM imports or they were sold there I don't know. I'd really like to know the History behind the Blizzard (I'm geussing from the Dihatsu refrence that it's some form of "badge engineering" ) cause of all the Toyota knowledge I've amassed this one ius new to me. Love this board for things like this. Good find Mate.

For some reason they kind of remid me of one of those cool looking Romanian rigs one of the members posted months ago.

Cheers

Dave

Here's a picture of a 1982 Toyota Blizzard:

If I was close enough to go look at it in person, I would consider buying it. Looks like it could be a nice strong little rig!

Same one this thread is about. I have no affiliation, but it belongs to John @ Duxbury Classics. John has brought in quite a few Cruisers from Australia and New Zealand. You can find him on the mud board as well. His username is jsaltlick.

Hope that helps.
