Traded Tacoma for '16 ecoboost F-150. Heresy?!

Oh that turbo whine.. It's addictive. I'm planning on upgrading to a 17 or 18 with the new 3.5 EB eventually because of my experience with my 2014. I also wanted the V8 originally.

These are very capable and powerful trucks

I love the rear locker, even in 2WD.......not to mention the impressive payload and tow ratings

About a month ago I traded in my 2012 Tacoma on a 2016 F-150 Supercab XL w/ the FX4 package and 2.7L ecoboost.

I'm currently debating the new 2017 Tacoma OffRoad Pro (Double Cab w/ 5 Ft bed) vs a 2016/16 F-150 SuperCab 4x4 with the 5.5 ft bed. The truck will be my new DD and I'm curious as to your thoughts on going from the Tacoma to the F150 from a DD perspective. Are you seeing a big difference between the two in terms of parking, maneuverability, managing traffic, etc. I've test drove both and the F150 obviously felt huge compared to the Tacoma, however a 15 min test drive doesn't tell me much in terms of real world experience.

Also, what was the cab & bed configuration of your Tacoma? What bed size did you get on the F150?

Totally not heresy. The F-150 is incredibly under-rated as an overland-car-camping-4WD-touring vehicle.

I think the Tacoma is overrated.

This is how I have always felt, but typically get written off as a Ford fanboy. Seeing all of these newer trucks makes me want to upgrade from my 2005 5.4L SCREW, gonna have to wait a few years though. Until then I'll just enjoy this build and others on here!

The Tacoma can't touch the interior size, bed size, or the towing and payload rating of the newer F150 trucks

Seeing you're out in the Bay area, F150 would be a handful in the city. I would not want to drive/park in that environment. Even the Tacoma is too big/long. Other than that, the F150 has been a great DD for me. Comfortable, better MPG, etc.

I really don't think you will have much difference between the two unless things are REALLY tight. It feels really big at first but you get used to it quickly. Overall, I find it to be a much better daily driver in all other aspects.

not playing favorites, but im curious on everyones take on the bed? Im sure everyone has seen the chevy commercial with the patio blocks and the tool box being dropped in the aluminum bed. how durable is it to you guys?

the bed needs a plastic liner. My Dad just got a new 150 and he had the dealer throw a liner in on the deal. They were overjoyed to do so because of the commercials.

Can't wait to see all the rust on the bed of the Chevy after ten years of having tool boxes and chunks of concrete dropped in without regard for not abusing the things you spend $30k for.

Probably like most F150 or 1/2 ton owners, the bed isn't going to see that much abuse. I've got a factory spray bed liner as well, but if I were to drop rocks down into the bed at that height, I'd just simply lay down a 1/2" -3/4" plywood in the bed. Or rent a trailer.

If there is something not rigged about that commercial I would be shocked. How many people these days don't run a spray in or a drop in liner

Yeah....I agree that dropping things from 5 ft is pretty irrelevant. I'm sure they are strong enough to handle any task if you aren't stupid. Chevy will go aluminum too for the weight savings soon enough. I guarantee it.

Its a pick up not a dump truck. You can haul all that stuff just load it responsibly. A plastic or spray on liner would absolutely help prevent the tool box damage in the video.
