What!?! Really!?! Well that's pretty darn cool...

Ya they don't like to advertise it much but on the top of the packages they say lifetime warranty. Actually never noticed it until my last big purchase for all my truck tools and the cashier pointed that out to me. SOLD! Cheap and warranty, can't beat it with a stick.

Can you just walk in to HF and exchange them or do you have to contact Pittsburgh?

As far as I know/ understood the cashier you can just go in and exchange them. Don't quote me on it though. I would imagine they would save much more money just exchanging them rather than mailing heavy tools and jamming up phone lines.

Good point, well I guess I know where to go if I loose or break any of the tools I have already.

I'll be starting on a tool kit for my rig soon, I already have almost any hand tool you can think of. (I'm a mechanic) but I'll be needing the big stuff such as axes, shovel, jack etc..

Ya that's a great place to get it. I use the crap out of my ax from HF and it's tough. No complaints. I like my 3 ton jack also!

You just walk in to the store and exchange it there. They usually want you to have a recipet, but they can look up your past purchases to find if you used a credit card or the members rewards program. Recently I exchanged a 1/2" drive torque wrench that served me very well, regularly for over two years. I did not have my receipt, but they took care of me. It was an easy exchange.

I have a mix of Craftsman and HF tools. I love them both. :)

I also have some 1/2" drive sockets in the larger variety I've bought in a pinch at Oriely Auto, they are branded "PowerTorque Tools", so far they have been satisfactory while wrenching on my suspension. They appear to have a limited lifetime warranty as well.

You make a good point about the rivnut tool and needing the drill but I think I'll only be using the rivnut tool at home. I can't really see a need for s drill on the trail unless someone else can tell me some past experience with needing one.
Very true. in over 40 years of off-roading I've only really needed a drill once. Since you changed your mind about taking the riv-nut tool with you you're not too likely to need a drill.

Don't forget about Craftsman hand tools fellas, a bit more expensive then HF but you get a lifetime warranty

While that is true as of right now, what is that warranty going to be worth when Sears goes under? While I have no doubt the Craftsman brand will be sold off, will the new owner honor the the existing warranty?

I would imagine they would, if they stopped with the lifetime warranty the whole craftsman lineup would tank imo. The warranty is is the main reason for purchasing they're tools. Quality also

I've never needed a drill myself. However, it has been suggested that it can be used as a potential better alternative to hand reaming a tire puncture before using a tire plug. This makes sense to me because I've had to hand ream a brand new tire that got a puncture right through 18/32" of tire tread, and it was a pain in the a**. :)

I converted over to those DeWalt 20V Li-Ion and really like them (for the home/shop/vehicle). About my favorite one is the impact wrench, which travels in the Fuso. I've never _needed_ it, but there have been a lot of times when it was extremely nice to have along.

Ya I really like mine as well! Took the drill out of the truck but keep the impact in there every trip.

My most frequently used trail tools are my tire repair kit. I carry, rubber cement, 36 strings / plugs, tire reamer, plug applicator, valve cores, valve repair tool, spare valve cores, spare valves, valve puller tool, tire spoon, starting fluid, chalk / paint pen, or perm marker.

I carry the usual assortment of sockets, wrenches, ratchets, screw drivers, hex and star keys, pliers.

Also carry a 36" pry bar.

Nice gotta take a picture next time you have it all out.

Took a picture today. All the small items fit nicely into an old plastic shotgun cleaning kit box.
