Trailer Theft - What do you do when you leave basecamp?

Just wondering how you guys prevent people from taking your trailer while away say on a trail somewhere and your trailer is setup back at basecamp?

Seems to me the Denver boot type anti-theft device would be a good solution. This is the one I have...they're in Marina Del Rey and they sell alot of them to the LAPD. The only way for a thief to get them off is with a cutting torch.

This one is ridiculously expensive ($450)...there are alot less expensive ones on the market that are equally effective I think...I bought this one 'cause I needed one quickly...just do a google search for denver boot

If I hadn't wanted one quickly, I was thinking of rigging something up with U-shape Krytonite lock (motorcyle size probably) and short piece of heavy chain.

I remove the lunette coupler from the trailer- most people will not bother to carry a special trailer set up the will include the trailer end.
I also put the pin lock in that hole- other than that you could run a chain through your wheel.

There is a thread about this;
http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6899&highlight=leaving+baby

In short if you have a multi axis coupler hooking up is difficult. If you remove the coupler and insert a locking pin or a Silent Hitch pin a new coupler can not be inserted. Apart from that wheel locking devices or chaining to a tree.

But why leave it behind take it with you. I think a Chaser will go anywhere your LC can.

Dang it! I apologize guys. The ONE time i don't search!

I would have probably browsed right past... "leave your baby behind..." thinking it wasn't trailer related lol

Can a mod delete this thread please. :(

Thanks Martyn

I usually fly the colors, Stars and Stripes as well as the Marine Corps colors and for some reason I have good luck with that... The other is a sign that looks like a target and reads, "Marine Scout Sniper on Duty feel like testing your luck???

I am more nervous about my trailer being taken when I am staying in a hotel while traveling, I try to park it near the front desk.

Padlock on the hitch and a 12 ft cable and kryptonite lock, through the wheels and what ever poor rock or tree is next door

Thats for the US........In latino landia.......I'd take it with me.....

even if you took the wheels off some pirata would just drag it away on its axles....hitch-no-hitch....

Off the main roads........hell they'd just drag it off

denver boot and all..........

Hitchs and lights are for **************........:gunt:

The pintle/lunette hitch is a major factor in keeping it around as few folks have a pintle setup on their rig.

That said if they do have a pintle setup then they showed up wanting it and mosts likely scouted it out before hand. And more than likely they will (as someone said) just drag it away anyhow.

I'm kind of curious as to what folks are doing for the drawbar end of the Lok N Roll. Given that its a simple hitchpin attachment to the drawbar bracket, its pretty easy to disassemble. Granted its not going to fit into anything else but with some clever use of chains I am sure the trailer could be dragged off pretty quickly. Thoughts?
