transmission linkage

I have an 08 rubicon auto . it has a plastic clip that keeps the transmission linkage connected. without it, ( the clip broke) the transmission won't shift. I went down to the dealer to have him do it it is under warranty (lifetime on 08) but he says no more just drive up, make an appointment week and 1/2 wait. so I bought the parts and will do it my self.

Question is does anyone know if there is a write up showing how to do it?

mine has popped off on the trail before. it just presses in. should take you about 30 seconds maximum. 20 to figure out which way to turn the clip, and 10 to push.

well i figured a few things out. first the plastic bushing clips sold online only bushingsfix. The dealer shows it as part of the cable system itself so like 120 bucks plus the cost of labor, for a 2.99 bushing clip? The dealer has no appointment for 1and1/2 weeks and can't find the bushing by itself, only as part of the cable that links the trans shifter tot the trans> The end that connects the cable tot he shifter, the opposite end is a 2.95 part and is sold separately. it is a different bushing ( why not put the same bushing on each end, the ends of the cable are almost identical).yeah the whole thing is a PITA so i am waiting for my 24.99 bushing form the east coast while my jeep is undriveable because the dealer can't fit me in??? and I couldn't find a bushing at any car parts place that was close. so Looked at the jeep site to build one just screwing around and it is over 50K for a hard rock 4 dr rubicon>OVER 50K!! ******. Agues in world where the choices for president are what they are it makes some sort of weird twisted sense . oh and by the way that hard rock comes with 373 gears ******?

Don't get too angry there Jeep or Tacoma. I find myself there on occasion and I figure it out. Crap, the parts place I go to asks me about things.
Happy thoughts.

It will work out, you just have to go with it and figure out the best way to go.

I've only been working on Jeeps for 48 years so I know how frustrating it can be.

so to all I hope this can help you save comebacks and frustration I got my bushing form bushing fix .com It cost 25.00 It is half the size of a dime comes with a nifty little compressor. I watched the video and put it on in no more than 10 seconds. It took me longer to crawl under the car than it did to put it on. Now 25 bucks is a lot for a a bushing that probably cost .25 but the alternative is to wait for the dealer and the dealer puts on a whole shifter cable. Oryou can buy the cable and do the work I don't know what a cable costs but I bet it is north of 100. So this company seems to have found niche that works and franklt I think they are entitled to charge 25 for the product considering the alternative.
