Tree Protector

Strap, to spread the load. The idea is to not inflict damage to the tree.
Length would depend on the diameter of the trees in the area where you normally would use it. Personally I'd go with 16' as I'm rarely so close to a tree that it would be too long.
No particular brand preference, just as long as it's about 3 times stronger than your winch maximum load and from a reputable manufacture.
 
I don't have a winch. I may get a Trifor (manual winch) someday.

I always thought I would just use my tow strap (not a kinetic or recovery strap). I would wrap the tow strap around the tree to distribute the PSI on the bark.

Anyway, just a thought for you...
